never related to authors being like "childhood is such a blessed innocent time", catch me with that jane eyre shit like "such dread as children only can feel" and "I then sat with my doll on my knee til the fire got low, glancing round occasionally to make sure nothing worse than myself haunted the shadowy room"
"Adults can change their circumstances; children cannot. Children are powerless, and in difficult situations they are the victims of every sorrow and mischance and rage around them, for children feel all of these things but without any of the ability that adults have to change them. Whatever can take a child beyond such circumstances, therefore, is an alleviation and a blessing."
I find this passage from the Mary Oliver essay "Staying Alive" very poignant and true.
I wanted to join with the shitty eridians so here's UFO!
Still have to figure out their lore but it'll come to me eventually!
IRON LUNG 2026 NOMINATED FOR GLOBAL FILM AWARDS
Voting on Global Film Academy. The official digital presence of the National Film Academy, celebrating cinemati.
We're Going to Make Hollywood Shit Themselves.
This is your opportunity to make a lot of rich people really mad.
If you loved Iron Lung, itās time to help Markiplier and his lovely amazing crew do the funniest thing possible: flip the bird to a film industry that said they didn't want them.
This is a little idealist, but there's enough of us. 38.6 million of us, and we could absolutely slam this. So VOTE:
Best Thriller: Iron Lung
Best Actor: Mark Fischbach
Best Actress: Caroline Kaplan
Best Supporting Actress: Elsie Lovelock
Best Director: Mark Fischbach
Best Producer: Jeff Guerrero & Will Hyde
Best Independent Film: Iron Lung
This could be yet another win for small artists, a win for indie filmmaking, and the ultimate "thank you" to Mark for doing it for the love of the game. He and his team went through hell to make something he deemed perfect enough for us; I mean, he basically built a damn jet engine in his bathroom for this movie simply for quality's sake. This feels like the least we can do in return.
Winners will be announced by the Academy on July 1st, 2026, in Central London.
Letās make sure theyāre reading that crew's name ALL NIGHT LONG!!!
I'm reblogging this periodically to make sure it doesn't get lost because the voting period is STILL OPEN!!!
Jingle Jangle. This is still going on.
Tips for Writing Trauma!
i love you all and i need you to stop writing trauma as a single breakdown scene in the rain after which the character is Healed and Ready to Love Again. that is NOT trauma :(
ā¹ Trauma doesn't announce itself. it shows up as your character suddenly not being able to eat a specific food, or going very quiet in a loud room, or laughing at the wrong moment because their nervous system decided that was the appropriate response. it's mundane and weird and it makes no sense from the outside. the dramatic flashback sequence is the least realistic part. the most realistic part is your character suddenly needing to leave a grocery store for a reason they can't articulate.
ā¹ The body keeps score and it keeps it in the strangest places. a particular smell. the quality of light at a certain time of day. a tone of voice that sounds like someone who hurt them. your traumatised character doesn't think "this reminds me of the bad thing." their heart rate spikes and they don't know why. they feel wrong and they can't locate the feeling. they're irritable for three days and only later, if ever, do they make the connection. write the disconnection. it's more honest.
ā¹ trauma also does not make people universally sympathetic and wise. it makes some people controlling. some people funny at inappropriate times. some people very good in a crisis and completely unable to handle a normal day. some people are generously kind to strangers and absolutely terrible to people they love. trauma shapes behaviour in contradictory, inconvenient ways that don't resolve into a lesson. your traumatised character can be difficult to like. that's not a flaw in the writing. that's the WRITING.
ā¹ Healing is not linear and it is not a destination. your character does not get better and stay better. they have a good month and then something small undoes two years of progress and they have to start again with slightly more tools than before. that's the actual shape of it. the spiral, not the arc. the scene where they finally open up and cry is not the end. it might not even be progress. sometimes it just means they were tired that night.

i love you transmascs btw. in a world like today its more important than ever to remember that we are never alone and there will always be somebody, somewhere, fighting alongside us even if it doesnt feel like it. i love you all.
Something about how I can relate everything to greek mythos if I squint hard enough. But YEAH so funny story, after posting this protoframe, had like a couple people going (give him a ryan gosling). And thus the rabbit hole began. I did in fact see both movies and working on the book and played the game (poorly).
Anyway here
Every morning, the queen asked her magic mirror to show her the most beautiful person in the world.
The mirror replied "To whom?"
"The miller who made the flour for my bread," the queen would say, or "Whoever spun the thread my shawl was made of".
The mirror would show her, and she'd be amazed.
The first time, she says "To me," and the mirror dutifully shows her her reflection. And she is pleased.
The second time, she says "To the King," and she is pleased to see herself once more.
The third time, she says "To the Royal Advisor," and is once more satisfied to see herself.
The fourth time, she says "To the scribe who takes the King's letters." She is shown the man's wife. And she seethes, but quiets herself, for it is only right that a man loves his wife.
The fifth time, she says "To the Court Wizard," and is shown the man's departed mother as he remembers her from his youth, radiant and smiling and warm and larger than life.
The tenth time, she says "To the Stable Master," and is shown the fastest horse in the stable, majestic and free as the wind even in captivity
"To the baker," she is shown the man's daughter, young and adorable and full of joy and laughter.
"To the artist who did my portrait," she is shown a painting of a woman done by the man's teacher, who he still looks up to now that he is well established himself.
"To the Royal Knight," she is surprised but not displeased to see the castle's entire guard force in the middle of doing drills.
The one hundredth time she asks the mirror, and it asks her "to whom?" she once again says, "To me." And she does the same the one hundred and second, and again and again and again.
It is a different person each time, and they are all beautiful.

so called free thinkers btw
If youāre really a āmental health advocateā, youāll have to acknowledge people who lack empathy, people who canāt physically care about other people, people who are narcissistic and/or self serving, people who have homicidal thoughts, people who are extreme attention seekers, people who have unstable and erratic emotions, etc etcā¦
Mental health advocacy doesnāt stop at disorders you ājust donāt likeā.
FUCKING DEVASTATING

patterns left by woodworms on driftwood
PLEASE search "beetle gallery" and look at images. The patterns larval beetles leave behind under the bark of trees while feeding are so so beautiful
reblogging a funny low note count textpost on your dash made by your mutual's mutual kinda feels like walking up to two strangers on the street and laughing loudly at their joke

I'll add to the "stop straightening Mira's hair" with a "stop widening Odile's eyes".
This is as wide as they get- and only when she's shocked:
Mild shock:

And for the love of Expressions, don't forget to tilt them down.
my life with ADHD
This is very true and a great post.
But low key makes me think about how people with adhd have been raised their whole lives to value a day based on what they accomplished vs what they experienced
I think your point is excellent. But also consider:
That list might say things like āPaint a picture. Go birdwatching. Finish that great novel I started reading. Call my grandma. Learn to bake a cake. Visit my sister. Play piano.ā
For me at least, the good/fun things are harder without meds too. I can have the best intentions, but following through is hard.
This addition is so important.
