Undo the Damage of Sitting
(Technically, this isn’t about saving your hands… but if you draw, you’re probably doing a lot of sitting, so…)
Srsly tho as a writer and illustrator- these exercises are just as important as your hand ones and will save you. So much pain.
pigeon pose is not only great for opening tight hips, it can help loosen the piriformis muscle, which is often responsible for sciatic pain down the leg.
besides using a table, you can also do this on the side of your bed, sitting with the ankle on the opposite knee, lying on your back in the same way, or on the floor as in the original yoga position.
here’s a video that guides you through proper technique and variations on the pose if you’re not able to do the above stretch.
and here’s another video on pigeon modifications aimed at helping fat people safely and comfortably get into the pose(s).
remember not to push yourself to the point of real pain! if it goes from “oh damn that’s a good stretch, it’s tight but it mostly feels good” to “ow ow oh fuck ow” then you’ve gone too far and you need to back off to an easier variation. try to practice regularly and you’ll make progress before you know it.
Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!
Heads up that this is a very extensive questionnaire and might be daunting to a lot of writers (myself included). That being said, it is also an amazing questionnaire and I will definitely be using it (or at the very least, some of it).
