Long warning - I have an extremely impressionable mind for a multitude of reasons [mostly due to neurodivergence lmao] that has cursed me [/light hearted] with. MANY things
I commonly refer to the creatures I am as '[creature] type' and the identity as 'it' . This is for simplicity sake to try and detangle my brain, because I am so many things, when talking about them I need to separate them.
Names are either one from past lives or canon, or simply ones i gave myself to make myself feel more comfortable with these identities

Spiritual and psychological kin - physical - past life.
I had no name account of being wild. I lived and was born among the cliffs of Crater Lake. My mother raised me and my sister to adulthood, then i had three cubs - two of which survived. I was killed by poachers while I was hunting.
I believe it started as a cameoshift, but while that cameo was still running its course I visited Crater Lake, and awakened memories of a past life. The cameo soon turned into a theriotype.

My name was Fifi. I was female. I lived in the great north - either Alaskan or Canadian wilderness. My owner lived off the land and grew a sled dog team to make it around. We were treated very good. We never really raced, only for some extra money when we needed it. There were five other dogs in my team, one of which was a german shepherd i was close to.
I died when we encountered a bear on the trail when I was about 6.
I believe it started from imprinting from childhood media and the wolfdog I grew up with - I discovered memories as well a couple of years ago.
I was a mare living out on the Oregon plains many decades ago, running wild with my herd. Soon, humans who didn't belong here came. My herd weren't going to let them take our home without a fight.
I have lots of fake memories that are near and dear to me, imprinted from horse media I grew up with - which is also how the theriotype formed.

I once lived as a darkwalker, living among my family group and hunting prey on the frozen world. I fell from the stars soon before the Glyph Maker woke up in our world. Many years later, I was banished by prey on a hunt and ended up in this body.
I do consider this identity somewhat psychological, given it's basis in TLD and appearance after I started playing Escape the Darkwalker. I believe imprinting from this media connected me to my Darkwalker self, rather than created the identity.

I rather strenuously disagree with including "human" in the definition of a person as anything but an example thereof, honestly. A person is any sapient being - the only reason it's sometimes treated as synonymous with human is because broadly speaking humans are the only demonstrably sapient species we currently know of (nonhumans born into humanity notwithstanding). All humans are people, because all humans are sapient beings, but not all people are humans. Look at any fictional media with multiple sapient races - elves are people, Twi'leks are people, dragons who can talk in a way we can comprehend are people, and the vast majority of people will include them in the word "people" without a second thought.
Wikipedia defines person as "a being who has certain capacities or attributes such as reason, morality, consciousness or self-consciousness, and being a part of a culturally established form of social relations such as kinship, ownership of property, or legal responsibility," which I think is more complex than the average discussion requires (typically "a sapient being" gets the important parts across), but is nicely descriptive if you really want to get into the weeds about it.

The goal of this survey is to gather information of on incidences of species-based misgendering within the Alterhuman community.

Introducing a survey on Species-Based Misgendering, hosted by Duranos of The River System.
Species-Based Misgendering: the assumption of one's gender and/or pronouns based on the expectations of one's species, stemming from biases, when the expected gender does not match the individual's gender.
Gendered Expectation: the expectation set for a species' gender, whether this bias comes from a cultural or folkoric background, establishment in a media, a linguistic framework, etc.
The survey is open both to the identities underneath the alterhuman umbrella, as well as nonhuman/human+ folks within plural conglomerates.
While this survey is primarily looking for responses from those who have been misgendered based on their species, those who have not experienced species-based misgendering are welcome to complete the survey as well. Interpretation of what counts as species-based misgendering is open to interpretation by each individual, and there are long-form fillable responses throughout the survey to accommodate this.
The survey is set to close on July 31st, 2026.

I feel like the online alterhuman community is not immune to rose-colored nostalgia glasses about the state of things in the Good Old Days when alterhumans were Serious and Philosophical. "Nobody takes it seriously anymore" surely has been the case since like 2005 at least
Also people were complaining about Kids Having Fun back in 2005, and it made for joyless spaces back then too. And racist ones, since a knock-on effect was that people who didn't use "correct English" couldn't participate.
I'm not eager to go back to the old days. Neocities is there if you need it, and with much better tagging and search functions than we had back then. You can do what you like in your own spaces! But the community is larger than that now, and a small group of tastemakers no longer own it.
If I were to be uncharitable, I'd say that's what some people are missing.

as annoying as it is to work fast food, at my previous job one time a kid recognized the theta delta pin on my hat and was so fucking excited because i was the first other therian they had ever encountered offline.

what really drives me nuts is that like. this happens an average of x times per year as a visibly weird person, but we only get made aware of it a small fraction of the time. you can't kill yourself you have to be clocky in the gas station.
Being clocky when i was working as a barista was one of my big joys. Being clocky when i was teaching high schoolers how to play the marimba was my reason for being for half a decade. It sucks how scared I am to leave the house I live in now. But I still need to try and be clocky at the grocery store. I wish i had a job to be clocky at. Being visibly me is one of the most radical acts I'm capable of, and I hope that one day we live in a world where it isn't radical at all.
Your own feelings about humans are valid. But if you have an undue amount of animosity towards all humans ever then that's something you should work on and grow from. (especially because op is right it's lowkey ecofascist).
Also more critters and beings need to recognize that not all alterhumans or otherkin are nonhuman. Many of us are human and just because we are also alterhuman doesn't necessarily make us less human.
And if you go online saying "all humans are evil and terrible and I hate every single one of them" then you are being cruel and an asshole.
Misanthropy is just another form of black and white thinking. I can understand how people might arrive there, but if you don't know how to reel back the part of your brain that wants to put everything you know into neat little boxes, you're gonna have a bad time.
As someone who has had misanthropic "friends," I'm just now realizing that - if we use the logic of a misanthrope - trying to get into the good graces of a misanthrope is kind of pointless. If they hate all humans, they will hate you too, no matter what you say or do. Obviously, this is not possible - even misanthropes have friends. And if they don't hate you, then they don't hate ALL humans, and should probably find out where their hatred comes from. And maybe not identify with misanthropy.
