starting by using Danny's age as a timeline. not an expert on american education systems, but from what i can figure out, CATs are first done typically around the age of 14, which would line up with the shows inability to age Danny up like ever.

because this is then when TUE happened, we can use Danny being 14 as the beginning of Dan's Thermos Time™ (TT). keep in mind that Danny also died in the same year.

"A few years ago" is extremely vague, but we can dial down the possibilities on the fact that he's still a teenager, which means this is automatically somewhere between 16-17.

(I personally go with 17, because i would NOT call 2 years 'a few years', but you can technically argue that he could be 16.)

which means that Dan started TT when Danny was 14, and exited TT when he was 17. therefore, Dan has been inside of the thermos for around 3 years. 

another thing:

during TT (according to the ghost in question),  he was able to think, scheme, and be conscious and aware of how lonely he was; -presumably- the entire time. 

don't know about y'all, but THREE(3) straight years of what is essentially solitary confinement can absolutely change a person. like, an entire upheaval of disposition, integrity, memory, and personality; no wonder his attitude has changed since TUE.
