The Devil in the Next Room by Gia279
Derek is on the run from officers of the temple he used to serve when he finds a sick, delirious witch cornered by palace officers.
With so many witches dead or imprisoned due to the outlawing and criminalization of magic, he can't just leave him--even if he risks his own freedom.
Along the way, he discovers that even dying from fever, his new friend is powerful and could be just what he needs to save himself, the remains of his pack, and maybe the whole kingdom.
-
Lydia Martin has been living as a human apothecary for the last three years--ever since Derek Hale saved her life. When he shows up on her doorstep with a sick, dying witch, she can't turn him away, even if it means sacrificing the life she's built for herself.
Solace to the Soul by sockpuppetstrings
Solace to the heart, solace to the soul, solace to the bones that feed the loam.
In the aftermath of his mother’s death, a young Stiles concocts a plan to bring her back from the grave. All that’s required is that he cleanse her spirit, sacrifice a small animal, and then bind her to the plane of the living. It should’ve been easy. But things go awry when he meets the dying god of Beacon Hills Forest. Someone has already made a sacrifice on the Nemeton’s rings and Stiles’ improvised ritual ends up with him soulbound to a mysterious Wolfkind boy.
Flashforward eight years, and his father disappears during one of his courier assignments. Worried that he may be hurt or worse, Stiles embarks on a journey to find him and crosses paths with Derek Hale, a Wolfkind alpha who knows more than he’s telling and has eyes that are remarkably familiar…
Unveiled by Dexterous_Sinistrous
Stiles’ hands were shaking as he took a handful of his veil, though he wished he could act bravely and just tear the material off. He slowly began to lift the veil, his heartbeat racing as he continued to look at the Alpha through the material.
'There isn’t another way', Stiles reassured himself.
His veil felt heavier than it should as he lifted it over his chin.
Calloused hands grasped Stiles’ wrists in a tight hold.
Stiles was startled, his actions halted. His veil was hanging just below his lips as he observed the Alpha.

Or, can love blossom while hidden by a veil?
The Light in the Woods by DiscontentedWinter
To honour a treaty with the people of a strange land, Derek Hale, prince of the kingdom of Triskelion, has to marry Stiles.
Secret hoard by Nival_Vixen
Everyone knows that a dragon needs a hoard, and without one, the dragon will die. None of Stiles' friends know what his hoard is, and they're all worried that he doesn't have one.
In the village below the dragons' mountains, werewolves live with humans, and Derek Hale is curious to know more about the dragons. He just doesn't expect one to fall from the sky.
bend bridges, mend bones by Thealmostrhetoricalquestion
They burst through the portal in a gust of stale air and violet light, landing hard on the outskirts of a swamp. Stiles feels his knees buckle, both from the magic required to keep the portal open and from the force of their landing, but he grits his teeth, determined to stay standing in the presence of Derek Hale and his pack. Christ, it would be just his luck to rocket through his own portal at neck-breaking speeds and collide face-first with a puddle of sticky, disgusting mud.
Thankfully that doesn’t happen, which is good because Stiles can’t really afford to add useless to the list of things that Mage’s are; untrustworthy cowards, meddlers, monsters.
(In which there's an awful lot of fighting, people learn to trust people, and Stiles saves the day. Repeatedly. Over and over again. And he would like some credit, goddamnit, Derek.)
Don't You Wanna Be My Sky? by WhoNatural
Stiles got ratted out by the Realm Guard for sneaking off with Scott a total of seven times before his dad buckled, promising sabbatical once Stiles reached Faehood, and enough Earth culture in the meantime to have him talking like a born-and-bred Californian teenager. He just didn’t have the tan.(Or, in which Stiles is a Frost Fae sent to the Earth Realm on the Fae version of Rumspringa and immediately falls head-first into a Coffee Shop AU)
Somewhere to Start by Lissadiane
Stiles has always known that he isn't quite human - the plant life that tends to sprout around him whenever he gets upset or excited gives it away. He's never really fit in among the regular people in Beacon Hills and is determined to wait it out, go to college, and find somewhere to belong. He's forced to abandon those plans, however, after he desperately agrees to enter into an arranged marriage to save his father's life.
An arranged marriage with an angry, sometimes furry dude with trust issues. It's all very Beauty and the Beast, without the singing candlesticks.
The Last Chills of Winter by LeeHan
“He didn’t magically charm me,” Derek shot back in his defense.
“Oh, so he just regular charmed you?” Laura said with a smirk.
“What? No,” Derek growled.
“Was he hot?”
“No! He just—“
He just had a laugh like a sun shower. Fuck.
Every Moment of the Night by aurevell
When he was younger, Derek’s mother taught him about the fae and their penchant for mischief. So when he meets one in the woods many years later, he steels himself for a trick. As it turns out, though, Stiles isn’t quite what he expected—and avoiding his spell may be much harder than it seems.
Etheria by FlamingBlueEyes
Stiles had been accepted to be an engineer on the prestigious space ship Beacon. However, when a Hunter attack leaves the ship in pieces, Stiles is forced to evacuate. He and the first commanding officer, Derek Hale, get stranded on an alien planet. While waiting for rescue the two must figure out how to survive while unraveling the mysteries of the planet.
Ultra Violet by ElisAttack
"There's no way he's a quarian. Least of all the quarian prince we're supposed to be escorting." Erica whines, and Derek wonders why he named her his staff lieutenant, she has no tact whatsoever.
"I'm sorry, but you must be a level 4 friend to unlock my tragic back-story." The prince jokes. "And call me Stiles, even I can't pronounce my actual name."
Or the one where Derek and his crew are assigned to be the glorified babysitter of an alien prince, and everything is not as it seems.
Like Thunder, Like Fire, Like Tenderness and Desire by crossroadswrite
Not that Derek has a business, especially not with Stiles because- because that’s not something that would happen. Ever. Stiles is annoying and loud and he does this thing with his wings where they just never stay still and-
“Derek! My favorite librarian,” Stiles greets with a grin and a half, approaching the circular desk. His messenger bag slips precariously down his shoulder and he contorts his wing, catching the strap with his wing thumb and setting it back into place.
Derek looks away, typing gibberish into his laptop to seem like he’s busy.
It’s not like he cares how skilled Stiles’ wings look. It’s not like he cares how broad and strong looking they are, how utterly breathtaking they are with their night sky blue primary and their thunder pattern of bright incandescent white, like lightning got caught in them.
The Third Sacrifice by aurevell
Stiles can see the writing on the wall. Everyone knows the Stilinskis are cursed, or magic, or both. He knows he’ll be picked as the third sacrifice—the one that dies for the sake of the harvest. But he doesn’t intend to let some ancient god rip his heart out, not if magic can help it.
If only Derek, his estranged best friend, would stop hounding him about his plans to escape.
Constellations by thedaughterofkings
Building relations with an alien race was always going to be difficult enough anyways. But when he meets Stiles, Derek finds himself with a rather more personal incentive to 'make nice with the aliens'.
Now they only need to figure out their translation issues.
Unquiet Wanderer by Bliz, wanderingeyre
It’s there to the west, but every time Stiles tries to concentrate in that direction as he breathes and reaches out to the energies around him, it slips from his mind’s eye like a shadow in the sun. The first time, he dismisses it as a trick of his mind. The second time he thinks that perhaps he doesn’t have the skills to reach his mind that far. The third time, the awareness stops and turns to him, heavy and oily thick. Stiles comes out of that meditative trance wet with sweat and choked by fear. The acrid taste of malevolence and minerals stays on his tongue for hours.
After The War Was Won by willowswhiten
The war is over, and King Scott of Beacon has summoned his noblemen to court. Amongst them is Derek, Alpha Duke of Hale, a young man whose ferocity and heroism have made him a household name, even beginning to change the public's perception of wolf-shifters. After all, Derek and his pack are widely considered to have turned the tides of the war in Beacon's favour.
Omega Prince Stiles' war has been a bloody one, though he never saw a moment's conflict. As a noble omega, his life should have been champagne and gossip, but instead he somehow persuaded his brother to let him use his magick and work as a healer in the court's emergency hospital.
With the final battle in such close memory, can either trust in what fate has planned?
House of the Howling Wolves by owiil (rlnerdgirl)
When crown prince Derek Hale of the kingdom of Triskelle finds himself unexpectedly holding the life-debt of a Twillian fae, he and his sister see an opportunity to save their dying kingdom.
Now, as Derek travels north into the Twill, he must put faith in his Twillian guide, Stiles, to keep him safe as they journey through a mystical land of magic and danger.
As their journey continues, Derek finds himself drawn to his companion and left struggling to consider what will become of them once debts are paid and the Kingdom of Triskelle stands strong once again.
Never venture into the Twill,
for in the heart of those lands you will
find only magic and the strange.
A place where bones shift and forms change,
as man turns to wolf and the moon holds sway
over minds and hearts led astray.
Heed this warning, this solemn call,
lest the Twillian magics you shall befall.
Love Me Tinder by andavs
To save the kingdom from a curse of unending winter, Derek is sent by his king to retrieve the mythical Firebird of legend—who turns out to be less of a mythical creature and more of a probable criminal who has no interest in being retrieved by anyone for anything.
A Wingbeat of Moonlight by AllTheseSquaresMakeACircle
Derek's mother had always told him to beware of that which walked through the trees. The creatures that walked between ths world and others. He had always listened. Then, he happened to meet Stiles one night. Ever since then, things never really seemed to calm down.
until the sun comes up by dumpac
According to the poems, the average Wielbarkian is taller than seven feet, as large as two barrels of beer, and their eyes are as cold as ice. If that's the portrait of a random man, Derek can't imagine the portrait of a royal family member. Of his fiancé.
Prince Derek is engaged to an ugly barbarian. Or is he?
Guide Me Through The Storm by Nerdy_fangirl_57
Stiles wasn't afraid to say the forest was more of a home to him that the village grounds his tribe lived on. Ever since he was a child he'd always been pulled by the forest and over the years the pull had only become stronger and more insistent. However, it wasn't until he stumbled upon a naked man near a creek that he started to understand what the meaning behind the pull was.
In The Forest, Dark And Deep by Welsh_Woman
The woods have been Stiles' home for all his life, so when something Dark starts to creep in, it's obvious that his world is going to change...
In more ways than one.
Aquamarine by Hedwig221b
The nymph was the best prey Derek had ever had — evading him at every turn, yet teasing within reach. Here, in the middle of the lake, between crumbling ruins of the naiad’s temple, with Stiles pressed against him, Derek could taste the life again. He was as close to peace as it got. If only he could satisfy the heat in his lower parts, to turn his head and seal his lips against Stiles’ smile, to sink into him and make love, long and sweet, all night ‘till morning… If he could wake each day to Stiles lying next to him, maybe, then his soul would settle.
But now, even while breathing the same air, Derek did not have him at all.
Still, he kept coming. Fixing things, bringing things, pulling Stiles close until he stopped resisting. All creatures yearned for warmth, and Stiles, with his transparent clothes clinging to his slender, wet body was not an exception.
your fangs against my skin (the sound of your bones) by Hedwig221b
This was it, then, huh? It was that easy for Derek to invite someone to his den. Someone other than Stiles.
He healed the wolf. Stiles killed his tormentor, mended his blood and bones, and let him sleep beside him. But none of it was enough.
He wasn’t a spark, after all, but a witch — evil and alone, locked up in his tower.
Witches didn’t get happy endings.

To my 25 - 35 year olds, you've reached the age where people around you are starting to give up on themselves because they think it's too late. Don't let that energy rub off on you. It's not too late.

I think another common misstep people make with cosmic horror is an overreliance on secular nihilism and extraterrestrial theosophy (idk what else to call Ancient Aliens/Chariots of the Gods stuff). Part of the actual horror of cosmic horror comes from the twisting of the characters’ world view, the fundamental understanding of the universe being turned upside down, which is something entirely relative to the characters themselves.
But so many half-hearted attempts at cosmic horror just drop ‘There is no God, it was always space squids’ like it’s some kind of universal maxim on the characters and then just… leaves it, regardless of how it actually affects the characters or setting. (It’s particularly jarring when it’s ham-fisted into high fantasy or sci-fi where it’s like yeah, man; no duh there’s space squids. You tried to make-out with one last week.)
The revelation of cosmic truth has to be meaningful to the characters. If your character believes in a fundamentally good and reasonable universe, then you can hit them with the old-fashioned cosmic nihilism. But if they’re already cynical and skeptical, then you need to show them something else, like that there is, in fact, a God, but she’s actually a giant cat that feeds off of children’s tears, and that everything in the characters’ lives that they attributed to free will and chance were actually her grand design. Something like that.
Rules: make a poll with 10 of your favourite movies, they can be just 10 movies you loved seeing or your top 10 movies of all time, then tag people and let them choose
I am about to show my whole ass with how unsophisticated my movie preferences are LOL. I chose movies that are my favorites as in ones I have watched a lot and will probably at least consider if you ask me what i want to re-watch, not which I think are necessarily the best. That list is mostly hard sci-fi movies (:
Pick a movie:
Jurassic Park (1993)

So, here I am again, getting ready to move into my car. My application for short-term disability back pay has been temporarily rejected due to issues with my ID. Now, I'm waiting on my duplicate, updated driver license because the first one never arrived at my mailing address. It's gonna be a full month until I get it and can finally appeal the decision to reject. It feels like everything I do is a lesson in futility.
Mainly because of the now inhumane delays (see above) that continue to keep me from getting my medical sick leave back pay. Finally got an invitation to go live with my brother & his wife in Florida--but doing so means losing my Connecticut-based Medicade. My meds alone are $1,800+/month, so that's a no-go.
Focusing hour by hour is the only way to get through this. I currently have $30 to live on (food & gas), after that, I'm gonna be on God's good grace. Not even trying to raise funds to keep a room, just maybe a few bucks so I can eat after I run out of cash.
Gotta be frank. I'm spiraling pretty badly right now. The time spins out in front of me, all the hours of sleeplessness to come, no end in sight. Hanging at Dunkin' until 8pm, then an hour in my car, then 9-11pm at McDonald's again (after nearly 5 hours there earlier today). Then back to my car all night long. No end in sight. Not a single bit of hope that it will end in the coming days. It's breaking me.
Barely slept last night (90? minutes total). Two brief naps this morning from which I awoke into a panic attack. Kidneys barely producing, which I take as my pattern when my body is under duress. Live blogging my exhaustion.
I would like to emphasize that I agree with all of these tags by the way. My post wasn't aiming to pin all of Europe's grotesque racism on the new elections.
A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.
Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.
This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.
Never let anyone from Europe feed you the lie that racism and fascism are unique to North America in the 21st century.
This is easily one of the CRAZIEST videos I've ever gotten. I was rafting down a river when a Yellow Jacket came, landed on my bright pink waterproof phone pouch, and started drinking from the water droplets that had gathered there.
The most amazing part is how the water droplet magnifies the Hornet's mouth parts, so you get to see them up-close!!!! It was FASCINATING to witness!
Here's some of my favorite still shots from that video:

tumblr keeps giving me these ads with straight up porn in them (like, nude dickriding) and while idgaf about seeing porn I really am like, exhausted by the double edged swords of "terms of service" and "advertising".
I can't post images that show too much of my stomach, because notable body fat trips whatever alarms are up in tumblr HQ. but advertisers can show me skinny white girls bouncing on it all day long bc like, they're advertisers.
we live in advertising world. companies have more rights to "expression" in public than individuals. once you notice it you won't stop seeing it. you have a moral duty to resist it.
getting tired of these kinds of responses. "you're only seeing porn because you look at porn and the ads are connected to your data huehuehuehue" like it's some kind of gotcha.
I am a sex worker - a porn creator. Yes, I spend a lot of time on porn sites! sometimes for work, sometimes for pleasure. I'm not embarrassed to admit it. Do you think I should be? I'm on testosterone, sometimes I jerk off four times a day. Get over it.
When I said "idgaf about seeing porn" I meant it! What I DO care about is the fact that I as a user and a worker cannot post my creative labour on this website, but that advertisers can show me whatever they want, including AI generated Attractive People doing my job. The implication that they're doing this with the use of tracking cookies makes it worse, actually. I don't like living under surveillance. Do you think it's funny? Or do you think that was part of the problem I was trying to talk about from the start?
One thing that worries me about the use of AI is whether or not it can worsen people's dementia and alzheimer's in the future. When my grandmother was first diagnosed, we got her math activity books. Now, my grandmother never had a formal education, but we did our best to keep her sharp, get her to do math and writing activity books, sudokus, playing board games that required some level of strategizing with her. Her family is prone to alzheimer's and dementia (both her siblings had it and deteriorated very very very quickly, which yeah, scares the shit out of me being her granddaughter) but she was the one whose mind lasted the longest, she only passed away two years ago, at 88, ten whole years after her initial diagnosis and sure, she had forgotten things, recipes and where she put her glasses and appointments, but she never forgot any of us, ten whole years in, she still remembered us. Now, this may have been luck, but doctors always said the constant mental work + companionship + medicine helped her a lot. So I'm thinking, these people who are now relying on AI for everything, from email-writing to thinking what's for dinner to casual conversations, I've even seen people rely on it to calculate what time they should leave their house if they need to be at a place at a specific time and their commute lasts X number of minutes. As if that's not... the simplest math operation possible? You shouldn't even need a calculator for that!!! Idk I don't know how long it'll take us to see the effects of this + exposure to brain-rotting short form content that is completely meaningless + people addicted to right-wing conspiracy style media. Idk I'm very worried. Please, read, read complicated books! Take up a book on philosophy and try to decipher it and make your own opinions on it, please buy a maths activity book and relearn how to do math, please get a hobby that involves lots of thinking and concentrating. PLEASE!!!
As a neurologist, I’ll give you the pretty name for it: cognitive reserve.
The way I explain it to my patients is that our neurons don’t regenerate. They make connections with each other and that’s it. If you don’t use your brain, they make fewer connections and, if one of them dies, you’re gonna miss it, because that was the only one that knew how to do X. Now, if each one of them has many, many connections, you won’t notice the difference when one of them dies. The others pick up the slack.
As of 2024, 45% of dementia risk factors are modifiable. Relevant to this conversation, 5% for less education and 5% for social isolation.
We absolutely are going to see the reflection of this, but it’s gonna take decades and it’ll be too late. So, for the love of your brain, pretend that it’s a muscle and make it work. People complain about “when am I ever gonna use this maths formula in my life?” You’re not. You’re teaching your brain to think logically. Those sinapses will be there for when you need to figure out your week’s schedule. English classes taught me how to interpret data and how to convey it in this text so it’s clear and you understand what I’m saying, not because I needed to justify why the curtain is blue.
Make your brain know how to do different things. Logic games, puzzles, taking care of a garden even if small, planning a church’s event or birthday, learn a new instrument, learn a few words in another language, look at a calendar every day, do some manual labor if possible. Do not, I repeat, do not let your brain get rid of sinapses by letting AI do everything. Your brain uses 20% of your body’s energy — do you really think it’s going to maintain connexions that aren’t in use?
Most cases of Alzheimer’s are sporadic, meaning no family history. Family history of a first-degree relative with Alzheimer’s starting before they were 80yo increases your risk in 2-3x on average.
TLDR: Yes. From the knowledge we have today, AI will increase the number and severity of dementia cases.

*guy who has never heard of Hamilton* I don’t know why you guys are all shipping random founding fathers with each other and not Lewis and Clark who were definitely fucking in a tent every chance they got on that trip Brokeback Mountain style
imagine you had a friend who constantly made jokes at the expense of something you loved. they're never funny, but they seem to expect you to laugh even though the punchline is just, "this thing you love sucks ass". it's not even really a joke, there's nothing funny about it, you can tell that they genuinely actually believe it. but they insist it's just a joke!
no matter what the situation is, they're always bringing the social interaction to a screeching halt with these jokes. nobody ever wants to participate in this joke with them. nobody agrees with the premise. nobody ever knows what to say afterwards, it's just an awkward moment and a subject change. but they just keep doing it.
you have to stop with the self-deprecatory "humor", it's not fun for anyone including you.
