Clearsight fucks me up so bad because imagine youâre in love with this guy. In almost every single future of yours, you are in love with this guy and you have a thousand happy memories together before youâve even met him. You are so young but you already know the names of your future children with him and who will be your best friends. You love him, and he loves you. You know this because youâve seen it in a million possible futures, and you know that your love is the only thing stopping him from spiraling down a dark path (and even then, sometimes it is not enough).
Youâre destined to be together which means itâs your responsibility to stop him from going down any of those paths with all of their infinite possibilities. You have to do this to save your country from disaster and maybe even the rest of the continent, but itâs okay because you love him and he loves you. Youâve seen the world in which it works out, and you know that if you just get everything right you can make it into a reality. Things are good in this time; he trusts you, he makes sacrifices for you, he listens to your advice. Youâve done it so far, and maybe some problems have show up here and there but youâre halfway there. You just have to be careful. You just have to make sure everything stays okay.
You meet your mutual best friend and you get wrapped up in politics and youâre starting to worry but the bad futures are lessening with every passing day. The three of you are happy even as the war marches on, and you pour over battle formations and enemy numbers because even if things are okay with him there are still so many people counting on you to save them. You love him and he loves you but he clearly doesnât love you enough to respect your autonomy and all of it comes crashing down because heâs lied to you about this and that means heâs lied about so many other things. Youâve failed. The person he couldâve been is gone now and thereâs no going back, so you have to put him to sleep so he can never hurt anyone again.
Heâs dead and youâre free, but even then you arenât really because everyone knows you as his. You loved him and he loved you, but only as what you couldâve been for him, and maybe the responsibility of stopping him from becoming evil never shouldâve laid on your shoulders. Maybe there were other paths for you with different people that you never stopped to consider because everything said you were supposed to end up with him. Maybe you can pick a direction to run in and see if you can make a path of your own now.
