amphibia au where hop pop saved marcy wu before she could get stabbed (she's in l.a with anne and sprig and polly) but then becomes the core's host. i call it "Crop Pop" instead of "Darcy." The "Cr" comes from "cruel" but "core" is okay too
Calamity roommates!
Marcy: it's okay just go to sleep without me.
Anne: we literally can't.
Anne needs chapstick
i wrote this before the bakugo keychain reveal in the finale. actually even before i saw “Spider-Sprig” and originally I was gonna have him in his street clothes. first time drawing amphibia characters and i didn’t want to draw in the show’s style for this comic so I was figuring it out as I went. that’s why everybody looks so inconsistent panel to panel.

Pre New York Chicken Choice Judy Show 🐔
original song by khakicuffs on tik tok
Jujutsu Kaisen is the Magnus Archives Anime
If you like Magnus Archives I seriously recommend the anime Jujutsu Kaisen. With some squinting you could feasibly interpret them as being in the same world. The anime basically follows teenage boy Itadori Yuji after he swallows the cursed finger of an old sorcerer named Sukuna and becomes host to his evil spirit. Lines up pretty well with how people like Michael Crew become avatars through interaction with Cursed Objects, ex. the Leitner “Ex Altoria.”
That’s not even the craziest part. Itadori goes to a school of sorcerers meant to fight curses. It’s like if there were Sectioned Police avatars like Daisy who went specifically to have monster fights for good. In the anime the curses manifest as monstrous spirits that only some people can see. This can reverse fit into Magnus Archives, like with The Stranger Entity following that performer, or the monster that wouldn’t attack the man if he hid under his sheets.
It gets even deeper though! Curses in Jujutsu Kaisen can be seen as Smirke manifested Entities. The world of Jujutsu Kaisen follows the idea of Human fears manifesting as specific avatars. There’s a talking humanoid Curse named Jogo who has a volcano for a head and fights with fire. I can draw a clear one to one Desolation Alignment. There’s another curse who is a manifestation of the fear and hatred humans have for each other, and his powers operate like a Flesh avatar. He manipulates the shape of a humans soul, and the human body distorts to follow it. I was instantly reminded of Jared Hopworth and the statement about the Gym with the athletes who’ve had their flesh manipulated.
The crowning jewel of cross overness though? Jujutsu Kaisen has Domain Expansion. Curses, and the sorcerers who use cursed energy (can be thought of as avatars) can develop the ability to create a closed reality that aligns with their powers. It’s like how Michael can create his endless corridor. Jogo, the fire/desolation curse, fights a sorcerer who is basically a Vast avatar in a Domain battle in one episode. I really don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll bring up another example of Domain Expansion. In one episode, Itadori along with his two classmates are asked to fight a “Special-Grade Curse” that has recently come into existence. It’s manifested in a prison, a place of great human suffering and fear. Itadori and his friends go in, and they quickly get locked into the curses manifested “Domain.” An industrial nightmare sewer space un-tethered from normal reality.
Guys, Gals, Enbys, at least for the episodes that are out now it’s not hard for me to watch Jujutsu Kaisen and imagine over in London the Magnus Archives crew are bumbling around. Only the Archives crew are much less equipped to deal with their curses. I could even handwave the differences between the two as being London and Japan having different cultures causing the Entities/Curses to manifest differently. I don’t know if other people have pointed these similarities out yet, but I haven’t seen any fic crossing them over so I assume nobody has made this type of post yet. If you like Magnus Archives and haven’t seen Jujutsu Kaisen please please give it a watch.
it’s just hard not to think about the fact that in 1915, JRR Tolkien went to war not with but certainly in the same army and many of the same battles as his 3 best school friends, all nicely upper class young men who had never known much loss, and only he and one other came back alive - and a couple decades later, he wrote a book in which 3 nicely upper class young men (and one very excellent gardener) who have never known much loss go to war together, or at least they start out together, and they all come home alive. (Though one cannot bear it, and does not stay.)
What more it wasn’t just losing his friends, he was a commanding officer of a battalion of working class men. All farmers and miners from the same area of Lancashire. He felt affinity for them, but wasn’t allowed to socialize between the ranks due to military protocol and he hated it.
"The most improper job of any man ... is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity."
I don’t think it was even 6 months later that he contracted trench fever and was sent home.
His entire command was wiped out in one charge shortly after, the majority of a whole countryside’s youths slaughtered while he survived. Youths who were brave and steadfast, but thought of as lesser than their superior officers while still being the ones carrying the actual battle. Youths who deserved fellowship, respect, and above all to go home and dance with their own Rosie.
“My Sam Gamgee is indeed a reflection of the English soldier, of the privates and batmen I knew in the 1914 war, and recognised as so far superior to myself”.
TRIES NOT TO CRY
There is a reason Frodo, who represents the English gentry, in the end falls and is caught by Samwise, who represents the common man.
But there is a soldier in Lord of the Rings who does not come back, and I don’t mean Boromir.
I mean the being who was a common hobbit, but who became corrupted by darkness and poison, who’s face is described in ways reminiscent of a gas mask.
The soldier who doesn’t come home, who is poisoned by gas and stress and insanity.
Is Gollum.
The Lord of the Rings repeatedly stresses the horrors of war. Eowyn's entire arc is about the truth of warfare versus the way it's glorified. She starts out glorifying war and combat and soldiers, even when her own brother is telling her war sucks and is terrible. And then in the end, she sees first hand what war does to people.
Aragorn's entire arc isn't to be the steadfast hero saving the day, it's to hold the line in terror and horror and blood while the overlooked folk are the people who save the world. And then, what makes him a king, is not his skill in battle, but his healing hands.
Which then ties into both Eowyn and Faramir's arcs. Eowyn goes into healing not because she's a weak and meek woman, but because war is horrible and saving lives is better than taking them. Aragorn is glorified within the text for his healing, and so is Eowyn.
Also, tying into the common man thing, in the movies it's Faramir but in the books it's SAMWISE who questions what brings a man so far from home to fight in a war and if he is really so different.
LOTR is anti-war propaganda.
Mental Crop Rotation
When farmers grow the same crop too many years in a row, it can leave their soil depleted of minerals and other nutrients that are vital to the health of their fields.
To avoid this, farmers will often alternate the crops that they grow because some plants will use up different minerals (such as nitrogen) while other plants replenish those minerals. This process is known as “crop rotation.”
So the next time you find that you need to step away from a project to work on something else for a while, don’t beat yourself up for “quitting” that project. Give yourself permission to practice “mental crop rotation” to maintain a healthy brain field.
Because I’ve found that when that unnecessary guilt and pressure are removed from the process, a good mental crop rotation can help you feel more energized and invigorated than ever once you’re ready to rotate back to that project.
: A crucial part of crop rotation is that the field is let fallow sometimes. You plant what’s called a “cover crop”, which is something you don’t expect to harvest– it’s there for its roots to hold the soil in place, and often it’ll be what’s called a nitrogen-fixer, i.e. a plant that can pull nitrogen out of the air and fix it into the soil with its roots (but sometimes it won’t, sometimes it’s really just there to shelter the soil surface), and then you’ll till in that cover crop, or let the frost kill it and the stalks lie as mulch, and then you’ll rotate productive crops back into that field the next season.
It’s important, though, to understand that during the fallow period, no nutrients are removed from that ground, and nothing is expected of it. Whatever the land grows then, it keeps, and it gets tilled back in or decomposes in place, to return its energy to the earth.
We’re not allowed, in our current society, to just let our minds be fallow for a bit, to produce nothing for export, to make nothing that can be sold. But it’s part of good land stewardship, to give every field time when it doesn’t need to give you anything back.
So yes, grow and produce different things from time to time, rotate them around your mind and exercise different mental muscles, take different things from your creative processes, yes– but also, give yourself a fallow spell now and again, and let the field of your mind grow things for itself to keep, to break down and save for later.

I think part of the problem with tumblr is that sometimes ppl forget that popular posts are just personal posts a lot of people agreed with/found funny and werent like, created to specifically target them, it was just a personal thought. pretty surprised i haven’t seen a “You’re Gonna Go Far Kid” Amv for Catra yet
“If you’re not interested in the gritty realism of a story in which your favorite characters could die horribly at any time, it’s because you’re a naive comfort-reader who can’t handle hard-hitting fiction.”
No, friend. I just prefer to read stories featuring characters I find interesting, and if they drop out of the narrative, I no longer find the story compelling.
And honestly what the fuck is wrong with comfort-reading?
Can we please collectively reject the idea that books that make you happy and have happy endings are somehow intellectually inferior to books that are angst-ridden and where all the characters suffer and/or die?
The superiority of ‘gritty’ books is steeped in misogyny. ‘Happy’ books are obviously for women and children who need to be protected from the horrors of the world that can only been properly understood and appreciated by the Vastly Superior Intellect and Life Experience of Men. Men want real books where people suffer and die! It’s more real! The realism!!!! It’s REALLER! Like. Can we just. not. Realer =/= intrinsically better.
People read books for different reasons. All those reasons are legitimate. Someone reading a good romance book is the same as someone reading a good crime thriller or a good YA fantasy. If it’s for fiction, it’s for enjoyment, and no genre of book is superior.
If you’re reading the fluffiest piece of domestic fucking fluff that’s cavity-inducing and makes you make muffled screaming sounds over the unbearable cute, your enjoyment is just as intellectually valid as John Smith reading Game of Thrones or some political thriller.
Be highly suspicious of anyone who tries to genre-shame you when it comes to fiction.
