and now, perhaps the most vital work I will ever do: using colordistance to objectively prove which David Bowie outfit most closely matches a given sea slug. congratulations to ceratosoma trilobatum, the coral family of colors, and also to me, for peaking early pic.twitter.com/ZaMypDB8dx

Penny Marshall, who costarred as a Milwaukee brewery worker in the top-rated 1970s and â80s sitcom âLaverne & Shirleyâ before becoming a director of hit movies such as âBigâ and âA League of Their Own,â has died. She was 75.
Marshall died peacefully on Monday night in her Hollywood Hills home due to complications from diabetes, Michelle Bega, a spokeswoman for Marshallâs family, told The Times on TuesdayâŚ
She had directed four episodes of âLaverne & Shirleyâ and the pilot for the short-lived 1979 sitcom âWorking Stiffsâ when she received an unexpected offer to replace director Howard Zieff 10 days into the shooting of âJumpinâ Jack FlashâŚâ
The film was not a success, but her next one was.
âBig,â a fantasy tale in which a boy wakes up in the body of an adult man played by Tom Hanks, earned Hanks an Oscar nomination and made Marshall the first female director in Hollywood history to direct a movie that grossed more than $100 million.
âAwakeningsâ (1990), a medical drama starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, came next. It received three Oscar nominations, including for best picture and actor in a leading role (for De Niro).
Marshall went on to direct âA League of Their Ownâ (1992), âRenaissance Manâ (1994), âThe Preacherâs Wifeâ (1996) and âRiding in Cars with Boysâ (2001).

Eliza Dushku told investigators she was written off the series after enduring sexual harassment on the set. Lawyers scolded CBS for its âantiquatedâ views.
In March 2017, Eliza Dushku, an actress known for her work on âBuffy the Vampire Slayer,â signed on to play a major role in three episodes of the CBS prime-time drama âBull,â and there were plans to make her a full-time cast member.
Her time on the set began promisingly. The showâs star, Michael Weatherly â a mainstay of CBSâs prime-time lineup for 15 years â seemed friendly. And a producer and writer on âBull,â Glenn Gordon Caron, told Ms. Dushku she would be more than a love interest.
Then came a series of comments that made Ms. Dushku uncomfortable. In front of the cast and crew, Mr. Weatherly remarked on her appearance, and made a rape joke and a comment about a threesome. Shortly after Ms. Dushku confronted the star about his behavior, she was written off the show. She believed her time on âBullâ came to a sudden end as a result of retaliation.
After she went through mediation with CBS, the company agreed to a confidential settlement that would pay her $9.5 million, roughly the equivalent of what Ms. Dushku would have earned if she had stayed on as a cast member for four seasons.
