One of the reasons why I can’t ever have a twitter like platform as my main is that they always feel so ephemeral.
Not to mention how limited the word count is.
Searching my posts in tumblr is already hard but in twitter like platforms? Oof.
I started with blogger.com and then made my way to livejournal where I stayed the longest, and that’s always going to be the medium I feel at home in. A platform with longform options where I can rant and rave as long and as short as I want.
I like words that stay.
reblog if you're corny and insufferable
we need to periodically remind everyone that a headline not including a person's name isn't an attempt to erase their identity from the narrative, it's just not good practice to put someone's name in a headline unless the reader can be expected to already know who they are
"if you can say the name in the article why can't you say the name in the headline?" what do you think a headline is for
okay, i’m curious. let’s play a game. reblog this post and put in the tags the name of a fictional Indigenous character.
No headcanons, no ‘coding’, only CANONICALLY Indigenous characters. You have unlimited time. Go.
if another FUCKING person mentions the fucking werewolves from twilight I'm going to burn this whole site down and take you all with me

I hope every writer who sees this writes LOADS the next few months. Like freetime opens up, no writers block, the ability to focus, etc etc you're able to write loads & make lots of progress <3
Passing along for all the writers out there!
I could sure as hell use some of this... 😭 And of course wishing all my fellow writers the same!
Hey, quick PSA for young or otherwise inexperienced fic writers:
"*****smut marked with asterisks so you can skip!*****""
Don't. Don't do this.
You let readers know what your fic contains through proper tagging and rating. Content warning notes at the top of the chatter are also great. You can even summarize key "this is the plot relevant stuff you missed of you're skipping this chapter" notes at the bottom too! This is a much smoother reading experience.
This is HELL on screen readers which is a disability access issue. Screen readers will read out every single asterisk you put, which I have seen done as entire page breaks. It's an awful reading experience. Please just don't.
Readers do not need their hands held through the reading experience. If they're enjoying the fic but don't care for smut, they can just skim until it gets interesting again. If they REALLY don't like smut, you warned them. There's a back button. You don't have to do a special song and dance isolating out the specific parts you think might be "icky". (If you think those bits are icky and don't like writing them, consider just don't! Fanfic is a hobby we do for fun and you don't have to write anything you don't find enjoyable. There's plenty of readers for gen fic and smut free ship fic).
If someone reads something they don't like then gets mad at you, block em. They need to be responsible for their own choices. It's not your job to please everyone. Your job as a fic writer of his to tell an entertaining and engaging story. (The reverse is true for a reader that demands smut or says it would "improve" the fic but that's not the story you're trying to tell. Block button is your friend!)
This is also super common in scene breaks.
Please, please don't try to span the entire page with whatever symbol you're using for your scene breaks. It takes an eternity for screen years to get through, and typically has me noping out of even the most interesting stores.
Instead, use just three (or fewer) make. Three is standard, and does the job without making your story unreadable.
In general: please, think of the screen readers.
as a person whose only good trait is their eyes, this has eluded me until i was tasked to test websites with a screen reader.
It is hell
It is absolute hell
From navigation to listening to the voices
It's just awful
Since then I've tried to write with screen readers in mind because the number of websites that think about accessibility is SO SO SMALL
If you don't believe me, use NVDA which is a free accessibility tool. Otherwise you have to spend thousands of dollars for a slightly better one. Then try to navigate a website.
So yeah, listen to the above posts
not to be mistaken for toxic positivity again but my god you need to learn to love the oppressed more than you hate their oppressors or else you are just delighting in feeling righteous while leaving those in need out in the cold
here’s a sneak peek of the art piece i did for vol iii of @broadsandbroadswords which is on sale right now! it’s the final volume. if you love women, nonbinary people, and swords, go check it out!!
I literally love all of you, but as a Tumblr veteran, Tumblr's main feature is the reblog feature. It is the beating heart of the dashboard and the foundation for a chronological timeline. The For You page here should not be your default setting.
You guys have got to start reblogging stuff you enjoy, especially, specifically gifs and fan art but also fics and fan theories or even hot takes if you're not afraid of a lil discourse. I'm tired of being the first or third reblog for a person's post and then seeing my blog's followers do nothing but hit like, while blogs sit there with no new posts in months or years!
Reblog more stuff please. Thank you, have a good day.
You're not even going to reblog this post are you
fandom dies in the likes. You HAVE to reblog.
Don't mind me tagging every fandom I can think of
the idea of only liking posts on tumblr is insane to me- if i want to say i like a post, i reblog it. if i want to find it again easily, i like it too.

In light of recent developments
how are you gonna be 31 and posting fandom content bro leave it to the teenagers
People 10 and 20 years older than me are writing your favorite fanfics, and drawing your favorite characters. You'd have no fandom without the people you think are 'too old' to have hobbies.
Today is the biggest day for Ellipsus since we launched in 2023... 👀
Back then, we began building Ellipsus out of a simple belief: writers deserve a place to create, collaborate, and share their work without handing over their words, their data, or their creative process to bad actors and Big Tech—a promise that matters now, more than ever.
Nearly 600k writers and counting are writing on Ellipsus because of this promise. We see everyday how writers are rejecting Big Tech's data mining model in favor of tools that respect user privacy and reflect our values.
We’re a small full-time team building, maintaining, supporting, and improving the tool every day. And to keep doing that sustainably—without compromising the promises that brought people here—we’re introducing Ellipsus Plus.
Plus is a set of optional features on top of free Ellipsus, designed to help fund the continued development of Ellipsus for everyone, free and paid; while helping us stay independent, ad-free, and working to improve the tool well into the future.
That means the Ellipsus you know is staying free: you can keep writing with unlimited documents, drafts, collaborators, and core features. Free Ellipsus will continue to receive updates, improvements, and new features too, including major work already planned (like offline syncing and native apps).
Plus features have been designed alongside community feedback, our pricing shaped by our users around what felt fair and sustainable.
Every Plus subscription leads to ultimate ownership of the tool. Not metaphorical ownership, but real ownership, including all future updates to the Plus plan. No endless subscriptions. Once you’ve paid, it’s yours. Really.
Our introductory Plus features are designed to be fun, creative, practical, and help you get the most out of the tool! We really hope you enjoy them. Here’s a quick overview:
Custom themes
Make your writing space feel like home with custom themes! Use any colors, gradients, images, or .gifs you love. Share with friends and readers. The choices are infinite.
Writing Insights
See insights into your writing process and spot patterns faster across ten AI-free metrics—like vocabulary diversity, sentence length, sentence rhythm, word frequency, and more. Writing insights are opt-in only, and run on local data, so your text never leaves the editor.
Customizable Snippets
We all love snippets! Now you can give your words an extra personal touch. Customize your snippets with media backgrounds (GIFs, images), fonts, text colors, and custom themes—you can even add byline credits for authors and characters!
Emboss
Emboss is our AI-free proof-of-work layer for human writing. Show your readers the time, labor, and love that went into your work. Instead of relying on unreliable “AI-powered” “verifiers” that judge a piece after the fact, share your writing journey, with authorship metrics that help inspire trust. You can also show how your work evolved with snapshots of your version history. Emboss is fully opt-in.
We hope you’re as excited about Plus as we are! Try Plus free for 7 days, no payment required. You can read more (and sign up!) on our Plus page.
Again, there’s tons more to come, and we can’t wait to build it for you. Free or paid, Ellipsus is going to keep getting better. Thank you for your support.
Have questions about Plus? We’re hosting an “Ask the Team” doc where we’ll be answering your burning questions. Please make comments there! Now please, go forth and explore!

day 1 of drawing doctor who pairings that never were
Personally, I feel Thirteen’s era excels in both historical and horror.
The first frisson of tension and fear I felt was in Rosa with that ominous shot of a police car just silently being around and the implication it set for being around the area where Ryan was.
Then the Haunting of Villa Diodati and then most of Flux episodes. I love that run so much. Flawed? Yes.
But man when it shone, it hit something satisfying.

Transformation and Inversion: The Curious Rewriting of Agatha and Rio from Canon to Fanon
In advance, this is largely written based on my perception and understanding of the characters within the context of canon. There are viewers who may have other interpretations and disagree with where I land on some traits surrounding Agatha and Rio. However, I will try to keep to broad strokes about the characters within those contexts. This is not a condemnation of larger tropes and patterns in the fandom, but instead a step back to look at them and explore the characters: who they are within their source material and where they have ended up within a transformative sphere.
So! Let’s begin. And I think, beginning by defining, broadly, who these characters are within canon will help to explore where they end up within transformative variations of themselves.
Sigh. Even with a friendlier podcast like Radio Free Skaro, I still feel like I am on standing on pins because there’s still that vague dig at Thirteen’s era even though they like it more than most.
Also, they keep talking about making Doctor Who scarier again but somehow forget that some of the scariest episodes in Modern Who were in Thirteen’s era.
It’s not that I think Thirteen’s era is without fault, I am well aware of it. It’s just tiring the constant digs.
For me the best writer in the Thirteen era was Maxine Alderton. She has such a great grasp of Thirteen, mixed with great ensemble writing and pacing.
The best Chibnall episodes were the ones during the Flux season, because he thrives writing a serialized season that gives his writing time to breathe, and not crammed in an episodic format.
Anyway, Maxine Alderton for Doctor Who showrunner!
