do y’all think stede feels like that goose being butchered by his father is his own fault? like he thinks he could’ve stopped it but he was too much of a coward to stand up to his father, even at 9-10 y.o? why else would that clip had shown up in that quick montage after he killed ned, if not guilt?
not sure if i agree that it was guilt about the goose itself, per se.
i read that scene as him pondering himself as a child who couldn't even stomach the sight of a goose being slaughtered let alone do something like that himself, to his present state in which he had just intentionally (if somewhat indirectly) killed a human being.
that’s very true! guilt wasn’t quite the word i was looking for, but it was the only one i could think of lol
i was just thinking about that and how the two clips they used were of young stede smelling flowers and then getting splattered by goose blood, and wondered about the significance of those
