Never learn how the computer works. If you learn how the computer works you will take physical damage every time a gamer (derogatory) opens their mouth.
Lemmie explain what I'm pissed at today. Not super sober rn so please forgive me.
When you mod a game you're usually overwriting something or injecting something, generally speaking.
So for The Sims, let's say, I'll make a mod that makes the hunger motive drop 2x faster. I alter a tuning file like this. Not what the actual xml structure looks like btw.
After saving and installing my mod, I start the game. When the game is loading mods, instead of loading the version of the hunger tuning present in the game files I got from Steam (left), it loads my version (right) instead.
You know, overrides it. Sims now get hungry 2x as fast.
NOW if EA were to release a Sims 4 patch, that altered the hunger tuning like this
My mod would break, because the name of the stat I altered was changed to "loss_per_tick". The game now expects that file to define a stat named "loss_per_tick", but my file doesn't provide one. Instead it defines a stat named "decay_rate", which the game doesn't know what to do with.
Whatever happens now, is behavior neither EA, nor the modder, expected or intended. The mod needs to be updated to reflect the change in stat name.
IN CONCLUSION it is neither modders' nor the devs' faults that game patches break mods. That's just how modding works on a fundamental level and I'm tired of seeing the same shitty arguments about who to blame every time a game patches.
SHUT!!!!!

Made the mistake of reading things on Reddit again, remembered how much gamer bros loathe Sarah Morgan for holding the player to pretty reasonable standards of behavior, and now I'm gonna ramble until the edible hits.
I'm not arguing that Sarah doesn't have a stick up her ass sometimes. That's the point of her character, really. Other than the trauma underneath it all. Sam openly complains about how strict she is. She's ex-military, she's your boss, and she is absolutely terrified of fucking up and accidentally destroying Constellation. Yeah, she wants you to behave.
And, while I think the loathing of Sarah in particular is also influenced by Gamer Misogyny (how dare feeeemale tell me what to do), how she's treated by fans is a microcosm of how people treat companions in general.
Starfield has 30 companions, and the vast majority of them do not like it when you gun random people down in the street. Off the top of my head, I think only Mathis, Jessamine, and Delta are fine with the player doing whatever. All four of the romancible companions, while they have different tolerances for some things, will (temporarily) leave you if you do piracy or commit murder in their presence.
This facet of the game makes up a lot of the grumbling regarding "the devs don't let you play a bad person", which I just find super interesting because you can do all of those things. You can shoot people for being in your way, blow up that ship full of school kids on a field trip, whatever.
Other characters will simply not want to be your friend if you do that stuff. And, writing-wise, that's entirely reasonable. No shit? People don't like it when you're an asshole. People especially don't like it when you're a mass murderer.
I sympathize with the gameplay-related complaint that it's not that fun to have your pirate crew be 3 named NPCs and generic crew npcs filling out the rest of the roster. But as far as storytelling and character writing goes, it's really very reasonable that being a piece of shit won't make you any friends. Kinda works that way in real life, too.
And then I get to thinking about how isolation (both self-inflicted and not) is a massive theme of the game, present everywhere, and start wondering if playing as an asshole leading the player to have few companion options isn't just another aspect of the game that plays into that theme.
blue sunset on Mars is a real phenomenon caused by the way Martian dust scatters sunlight.
Unlike Earth, where sunsets are red and orange due to the scattering of shorter blue wavelengths by our atmosphere, Mars has an extremely fine dust that scatters blue light more efficiently near the Sun.
So during sunset on Mars, the sky turns reddish-brown while the area around the Sun glows a soft blue. It’s the opposite of what we experience on Earth.
NASA’s rovers have captured this eerie sight
so coming from trying to play morrowind, to playing oblivion remastered, to watching the skyrim/fallout 4 videos the algorithm took me too i can honestly say. do not take the voice acting and dialogue options for granted in starfield lmao
they are head and shoulders above what we've had in the past. like. literally

Hi, about your Starfield captain's character sheet... Could you please make it in English? It looks so good, but I can't speak Japanese. 😔 I'll appreciate it very much if you can do this. Many thanks.
Hi there! The person behind this sheet is そらまめ(Soramame). I requested the English version, and they graciously created it for us! You can grab it here or from Soramame's X page.
Also, they're a talented artist, so I highly recommend checking out their art!✨
Some of the categories are a little confusing and i think lost in translation - I interpreted Force as factions you joined. Relationships should be plural to suggest who you were friends or enemies with. Think use of the word weight - should be Build as that's how it is in game. And Image colour could be seen as skin colour. But i love the layout of this, especially the way it looks like it could be on a screen in game.

Requiescat en Pace, underflowed Quantum Essence.
Best part of Watchtower was me assuming the fact that Torin spent most fights on the floor was just Bethesda’s companion ai being bad, but then I read his file at the computer at the end and the nickname they gave him is “Albatross”. 😭 that’s so mean!!!
His file is literally like “yeah this guy is such a loser that we weren’t gonna bother, but he started hanging out with the protagonist, so we want him too now. We have nicknamed him ‘useless piece of shit who brings everyone down’.”
Dicking around in CK and found this all timer Walter line I don't remember from when the Hunter attacks the Eye.

Moon Joy June: Lunar Inspo
Moon Joy June artists! This is the second week of Moon Joy June, and the prompt is “Moon.” If you’re an artist looking for some inspiration, we have a treat for you: four new and previously unseen images from our Artemis II mission!
All four of these images were captured on April 6, 2026, during flight day 6 of the mission, when the four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft conducted the lunar flyby of their ten-day journey. During the lunar flyby, NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen captured photographs and collected scientific observations of the Moon in meticulous detail.
You can find more images from the lunar flyby here. If you’re feeling inspired to make some art dedicated to our celestial neighbor, you can share your creations on Tumblr with the #ArtemisArtShow hashtag!
