"I interviewed Todd Howard for the first time in 15 yrs" - Jason Schreier
one notable thing that stands out to me from Todd's interview questions is that he said he doesn't think about what his retirement would look like (anymore).
In the past he basically said that after TES VI, Fallout 5 would be his last game. But now he sees devs who are notably older than him are still doing amazing things in the gaming industry so he just doesn't think about retirement nowadays.
Ive personally been a lil surprised that he was ever thinking about his future retirement when the dude is still only in his 50s. Theres tons of old directors/artists who are in like their 60s/70s/80s and are having the time of their life making fantastic stuff. I know Todd also sees that. So its no surprise he has walked back thoughts about future retirement plans.
I do also know that Todd is VERY protective of Bethesda, its employees, and what they make. So given the recent fucking over and layoffs that Microsoft forced Bethesda into, I'd imagine Todd also wants to stay on board simply to try to protect Bethesda from whatever Microsoft would do to it after he retires.
