whump is the means by which many fans emotionally connect to characters. where we applaud their resolve — the attributes of their excellence for surviving and overcoming a trial and persisting despite all obstacles. and also where we celebrate their humanity and vulnerability. where we feel most strongly that they are deserving of affection, care, people going out of their way to help them.

women are usually denied these attributes. we are seen as lacking the necessary resolve or competence or inner strength. or seen as shallow damsels in distress too often so that the aid and assistance does not feel earned. so that it’s never reinforced that we deserve people going out of their way for us after an ordeal.

so what we need is more woman whump.

i have a very special scenario in my head of shane who is used to feeling like this and finding a quiet place to assess what tf is happening to him rn so he can decide if cold water on his face or hospital.

(not even considering the fact that hiding away while potentially having a life-threatening allergic response is an AWFUL move).

and i am especially endeared by the idea of it going from him going off and doing this by himself to ilya clocking him leaving the room in a way that says Not Okay and following him and the two of them in just a quiet little pocket of space together, with shane having already handed over his auvi-q (the version of an epipen that fits in a suit pocket) just in case.

just very sweet to imagine that this is still scary and frustrating to have to deal with and tbh? still feels a little embarassing even if he knows it shouldn't, but it is also nice that there's someone with him who just Gets It and who will sit quietly with him until he can decide what's happening and help him if he needs it.

OH MAN in vegas, ilya canonically was freaking out ahead of time in anticipation of seeing shane again, so i posit that he was denying that he was freaking the fuck out and was trying to lie to himself and say it was just low blood sugar, so he grabbed something from craft services backstage.

and it's fucking. peanut butter crackers.

and he chews some mint gum in another attempt to settle himself so shane doesn't end up smelling it on him, but him kissing shane in the vegas bathroom then means contact with it, and shane's reaction wasn't from exposure earlier, bUT IT IS NOW.

GOD the panic and angst of shane trying to communicate what's happening and get ilya to grab his epipen out of his inner jacket pocket (assuming he even has it on him by some fucking miracle) and ilya at first thinking this is just a bad panic attack because that's the only guess he would have based on past experience with shane, and he's trying to do the same move of kissing him to calm him down, but shane already can't breathe right and also doesn't know WHAT the contaminant was so doesn't want to risk more contact

but now ilya thinks it was him being too rough or missing a signal that shane wanted to stop and being HORRIFIED at the idea and immediately backing away, but shane reaches for him both because he is experiencing impending doom as an element of the reaction and also REALLY needs ilya to get his epipen for him and him trying to back across the room is NOT HELPFUL FOR THAT GET BACK HERE

So I have been seeing things about how the DC Blackout was just clout chasing even from black fans so I want your take on this honestly because I am genuinely confused

1. If I wanted to clout chase online in a predpminatently White male nerd space, I wouldn't put a target on my back by standing up for Black issues, especially in this political climate.

2. Even if the intentions for some reason were disingenuous and selfish, the core point is still salient, DC still shows a pattern of negligence and anti-Blackness and have not acknowledged that in any meaningful way.

3. People are cowards, and it's scary to risk highlighting your otherness. It's much safer to take a piss on the uppity negros who "aren't protesting right', and ensure the majority remembers that you're one of the good ones.

4. Every time Black folks protest anything, they're doing it wrong. There's always a nitpick, it's never the right time, there's always a fringe example weaponized to shut them up, they're always just looking for attention. A man in this country got blackballed and dogpiled for kneeling, and yet the problem he was protesting is still alive and well.

I see no reason to assume this is anything different than the long storied tradition of Black suppression, and self-protective coonery.

Kirk was being anti-Black with literally his last breath, reinforcing the empirically false rhetoric that gun violence is a uniquely Black problem, and yet DC moved instantly to fire a trans woman who wasn't upset that a man who stoked violent, transphobic, homophobic and white supremacist rhetoric was a victim of his own ideals.

Why on Earth would I give that company the benefit of the doubt, while assuming a small Black content creator is up to no good?

having a waitress memorize his entire list of allergens and adopt the colloquialisms his family uses to refer to them feels like it goes a good deal beyond that, however. he can not believe this is happening to him. thank god this hasn't been leaked to social media.

i feel like shane would fucking DIE of humiliation if it happened, but the idea of a video going viral that's just the two of them slightly out of frame at an event and at a distance, so what the camera catches is shane takes a bite of a cookie, ilya turns and goes, "no! spit it out *muffled audio* slut. bad." and shane immediately grabs a napkin and spits it out, and then ilya puts a hand on his back and the two of them walk out of the room very fast.

and the reaction online is oh my GOD??? ilya rozanov treats him like this??? what an ASSHOLE?? controlling what he eats?? calling him a SLUT IN PUBLIC?? BECAUSE HE WANTED A *COOKIE*??? and then making him LEAVE???

and how do you even START to explain, "no, my husband has food allergies, and it's an ongoing joke that food loves him or is a slut and will kill him. he thought the cookie was one of the safe ones we requested catering to have, but it was one of the ones from a multi-pack i saw earlier, and there were peanut butter cookies near it, and saying the cookie is a slut was the fastest way to communicate that he needed to spit it out NOW so he could go rinse his mouth out."
