Berto got lost again! It's ironic that he's a hammerhead shark with all his sensory prowess, but he can't find his way around his own apartment. 🦈💫
Music: Blue Horizon - by: Alyzea
Full artwork from the second background test I did for the experimental comic, drawing over the 3D model I made of my Sharkfolk characters' home. In this one, I was able to experiment with interior lighting!
I didn't have many ideas about what kind of dialogue to include, so I thought of this simples and silly interaction. If you'd like to see more details about the creation process, you can check out my Patreon. Any help is welcome!
For location reference, this scene would be from this area. This is the South Hall.

In a distant post-Anthropocene future, after the rise of the sharkfolk civilization, a hammerhead shark named Roberto asks himself a question! 🦈💬

As promised, here's the full version of this test sketch I made. Originally, there weren't supposed to be any characters in the scene, but I wanted to experiment with how I would do it and inserted Roberto and Tiago having a silly, random dialogue.
For location reference, this scene would be from this area. Called the Colortrail Courtyard.

are you an architect? your residential is so solid conceptually and you presented it in such a professional manner!!!
awesome work :0
I'm flattered you liked it! I'm surprised you thought it was a solid concept, because I thought it looked silly and weird, the top-down view even looks like a smiling clown, hehe 🤡 My father wanted me to be an architect when I was a child, concluding that because I liked dollhouses and drawing structures. I almost considered that career, but I enjoyed creating fantasy structures, so I went down a path related to game design college.
I like to create things that seem minimally coherent but taking care not to appeal too much to realism. For a shark civilization, one would expect something stylized and playful, resembling corals, boats, or something 'caricatured' like that, but I like it to be more subtle and not exaggerated. For example: I know that's the intention of these works, but I think the concepts in Chicken Little's structures sound too cartoonish, BlackSad is too realistic without any adaptation, while Zootopia has an architecture with more balance between cartoonish and realistic with many adaptations to meet the needs of different animal species; it's something more like that that I'm looking for.
For this particular building, I was inspired by real places, mixing themes and drawing inspiration from the design of an architect named Artacho Jurado. I comment on this in more detail here, and on my Patreon, if you want to support me, there's a little more about it.
There are some curiosities structural features of the Sharkfolk buildings: The frames and other metal details are probably made of titanium and moisture-resistant stainless steel; they use concrete similar to Roman concrete that strengthens in contact with water; they adorn the buildings with ceramic tiles similar to those used in the Sydney Opera House that 'self-clean'; and finally, they use non-flammable and non-toxic cultivated algae bioplastic. How do they do that? I have no idea! But since they’re on the eve of becoming a post-scarcity civilization, they probably do it in the best way possible, though it’s beyond our understanding, hehe
Another sketch I drew over the 3D model I made of Seven Waves Towers. This place would be the North Hall, a path connecting the Amber and Coral Towers.
Do my backgrounds look decent for the comic I plan to make?
At some point in the future, I'll publish the complete artwork, but if you want to see it in advance and details of the creation process, you can check it out on Patreon if you'd like.

Here's a small diagram I made to help me find my way around the Seven Waves, The home of my sharkfolk friends. 🦈✨
I'm still unsure which English terminology would be ideal: Residential, Building, Towers, Complex? Which would be best to use?
After thinking about it, I came up with: The Seven Waves - Residential Island.

Here's a really bad video I made so you can see the model better. At some point I'll redo this drawing without the 3D model to make it look like a building map pamphlet or postcard.

I'll show the complete artwork at some point, but you can see more details on Patreon if you'd like.

Almost finished with the 3D model of the Seven Waves Towers, the home of Roberto and his friends. I feel like I wasted a lot of time on somewhat useless details, but it was fun nonetheless!
On Patreon I shared more details and other angles of the models if you're interested or want early access. I'll publish them in the future anyway.

“Two anxious teenage sharks decide to improvise a little spell to find the ideal vocalist for their band, but end up summoning something that should have been forgotten! What could possibly go wrong?” 🌊🦈✨
Me trying to write a decent synopsis, dsfjkghdf it sounds pretty silly and generic, but I like it.
I'll finally try to make a webcomic about these sharkfolk, I hope it works out, I talked a little about it here if you want to see.
“Even after being threatened by the great extinctions of the past, sharks remained resilient as they headed into the future. But now they wear clothes, use cell phones, play video games, and make music! How much time has passed?” 🎮🦈✨

I've been having trouble with insomnia, but despite that, I feel more comfortable drawing at night, although I sometimes have existential crises..
I have a question.. why do you like my art? Did I manage to make you see sharks in a new light?
Now that the downtown Tidebay is finished, my next step will be to focus on completing the home of my main sharkfolk characters and Roberto's room!
I hope I don't get too bogged down in so many details sdfjkhsadf
Currently, I'm focusing on creating and designing the Seven Waves Building, the home of my main sharkfolk characters in the story I'm developing. I'm posting the creation process on Patreon if you'd like to follow along and support me in any way!

Urban Sharks 🏙️🦈✨
A clear blue sky and just another typical day in the life of the sharkfolk in downtown Tidebay!
A glimpse of the 3D model I made of the city that I used to draw over this artwork!
