Like did you know that people CAN in fact perceive you differently than you do yourself regardless of how objective you think your own perception is. And not just like emotionally or relationally or socially, but literally also physically. Like people can PHYSICALLY perceive you differently than you see yourself. This is insane news for all of us overweight girlies.

Like our VISUAL perception of ourselves, even though consciously it’s simply observation, IS NOT COMPLETELY OBJECTIVE. We, or at least I, attach subjective truth onto an observation… and then let it drive my life for a decade.

And this is hard to articulate, so when opening up about it it’s easy to stay surface level. Especially if you’re like me and hate talking about it because it seems so attention-seeking. But when it’s something you are literally subconsciously thinking about all the time to the point where it drives your life - and you’re never opening up about it?

But when I would only half heartedly open up, I would receive only half-precise encouragement. So I would feel none of it applied and everyone was lying. So even when I would open up I would find ways to twist encouragement into even more self deprecation because I thought things were so bad that even close people that I trust would lie to me. But turns out people literally can PERCEIVE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. Like some things I was convinced were objective truth actually aren’t (maybe a wee bit of dysmorphia was whispering who knows).

So basically I was trying to open up to this person right and I started with the same surface level stuff and then… she was just locked in and gave me logical responses. Like obvi I love her and she loves me so she said sweet encouraging things because it was a hard conversation, but she just thought it out logically with me, which is totally what I needed.

Basically I hope to encourage <3. I struggle a lot with terrible self perception and I hate opening up about it… even though my personality is typically a very open book. If you’re struggling with the relationship between your weight and appearance you’re not alone pookie! Perception and its involvement of subjective and objective truth is so insane to think about, and it’s worth some research if you’re having problems with it. And it’s alway helpful to find someone to logic it out with you, if that’s the way your personality works.

You know he loves you back, but you can only see him one week a year and no other communication.
