I remember seeing a lot of people thinking that they had somehow forgotten the reload or that the cutscene just assumed Leon hadn't reloaded for plot convince in this scene, but this is actually an interesting detail within the game: when Saddler manipulates Ashley’s plaga and tries to get her to kill Leon, the gun doesn’t run out of bullets rather it jams. This model has a moving slide, which can cause issues if the person doesn’t hold the gun steady.

Since Ashley’s hands were shaking, she did what’s called limp-wristing the gun. It’s an issue with models that having a sliding or bolt mechanism where if the person’s wrist isn’t firm and straight enough, the movement will cause the framework to shift resulting in the empty case of the previous round getting stuck in the action (stovepipe/ FTE). When Leon picks the gun back up, he has to eject the magazine and manually clear the casing out and reset it. 

In other words, if Ashley hadn't been nervous and shaking, or Leon had been carrying around a "better" weapon, he would've 100% been dead. And the look on Leon's face seems to indicate he knows he got really really luck here.

The photo is by photographer Cheney Orr, taken on July 4, 2026, 70 years after the first photo.

boy did i do a lot of tweaks on this one. Every monitor had entirely different colours for the lighting so i just gotta trust my gut that i got it right this time. lighting is hard. 

people always say that internet spaces are americanised because the users are majority americans.

and i do always wonder how much of that is "there are actually a majority of usamericans" and how much is "usamerican cultural markers are a default for many online spaces, and non usamericans are often indistinguishable from usamericans unless you're actively looking".
