There’s always a part of me rewatching the entirely of the Pokémon series that thinks “I feel bad for anyone who really dislikes the team rocket trio” because it’s become clear that they’re just one of the favorites the writers love to write the most. Granted, they kind of have to be for many plots, but for some they just appear because the writers WANT them there, like for gym battles in the early seasons for some odd reason.
This is not necessarily a critique, because I love them just as much as the writers evidently do. Sure, I acknowledge their writing isn’t always up to snuff in many episodes, and they do learn into butt monkey territory, but the writers succeeded if they have me predicting when they’ll pop up, or cheering when they altered the motto, or rooting for when they use more creative battle strategies, or any number of odd stuff they’ve gotten me engaged in.

ASH'S MOM IS LOOKING FOR A JOB AS A WAITRESS AND FINDS AN AD IN THE PAPER, NOT KNOWING IT WAS TO A GAY BAR. WHEN SHE GETS WORK THERE SHE'S A BIT SURPRISED BUT LIKES THE KIND WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND GETS ALONG WITH THE OWNERS.
WHILE WORKING JAMES IS TELLING HER HOW WONDERFUL AND GREAT JESSIE IS, TRYING TO BE A GOOD WING MAN, AND THE WHOLE TIME SHE THINKS HE'S JUST A DOTING MAN WHO LOVES HIS WIFE BUT HE'S TRYING TO GET HER AND JESSIE TOGETHER.
MEOWTH ENDS UP BEING THE UNOFFICIAL BABYSITTER WHEN ASH IS THERE AND THEY BOTH JUST WATCH THIS WEIRD STORY UNRAVEL.
