things are not going well rn lol mentally i mean
one little thing ilya does that they don’t acknowledge but shane really appreciates is the way he asks for things. when they’re together and ilya’s drink is getting warm, he doesn’t ask “can you put ice in this, моя любовь?” he asks “can you put three ice in this, моя любовь?” so shane doesn’t stand at the ice maker and worry about how much ice is too much ice or conversely how little ice is not enough. he can just get him three ice cubes and feel accomplished.
same goes with coffee, when ilya needs a top off he shows shane on the side of the mug the line he wants his mug re-filled to. it really helps because shane wants to be helpful. he wants to get things for his husband and receive a kiss on the cheek when he does because it feels like something normal couples do. but he doesn’t want to deal with the dread of having to ask follow up questions because the instructions weren’t clear enough.
shane (a little tipsy) being cornered by a few fans at a bar one night and they ask him what’s the best thing about coming out, expecting him to say something motivating like self-expression and liberation and shane just goes
“i don’t know, probably that i can have ilya’s photos on my phone now :).”
and the whole of non bigot hockey twt just fucking crash out and montreal metros and crowell gets burned at the stake
These tags are my fave

no new selfies to post just wanted to remind everyone that i’m sexy and you’re just going to have to trust me
The covers for Japanese editions of Heated Rivalry and Game Changer have been unveiled, illustrated by mangaka Akira Minazuki (author of Smoky Nectar):
Look how pretty!!
Fandom is so obsessed with contrasts in ships that they force them onto hollanov, a couple who are FAMOUSLY supposed to be similar. There is no slutty one and prudish one. They both love sex. There is no smart one and dumb one. They both excel at the same career where traditional metrics of academic intelligence don't apply. There is no jock and nerd. They are both professional athletes. There is no neatfreak and slob. They both pay other people to clean their houses. Please release yourself from the need to manufacture an opposites attract dynamic in every facet of their relationship, ESPECIALLY when the central conceit of hollanov as a couple is that they're more alike than everyone else seems to think.
There is a specific dynamic in fandom that pops up constantly around non-native English speakers, and around Ilya in particular, that completely misses how multilingual adults actually navigate language. It’s the constant assumption that whenever Ilya stumbles over an English word, gets frustrated with a press question, or speaks with an accent, he’s secretly insecure about it. The idea that he’s sitting around wishing his English sounded like a native speaker's completely flattens his character. Speaking as someone whose fourth language is English, I can tell you that there is a massive difference between the momentary physical annoyance of having a word on the tip of your tongue and a deep seated insecurity about your intelligence or identity.
When Ilya gets annoyed during an interview because he forgets a word, it isn't an ego crisis. He isn't thinking, "Oh no, my English is bad, they’re going to judge me." It’s purely an efficiency problem. It’s the irritation of knowing the exact nuance you want to express in your head, but the language isn't handing you the vocabulary fast enough to keep up with your thoughts. English is just a tool to communicate. If the point gets across, the job is done. Nobody who navigates multiple languages expects themselves to speak academic, textbook English when having a casual conversation, nor do they feel inferior for not doing so.
This is also why writing native English speakers constantly "correcting" his grammar, syntax, or pronunciation(and having him passively accept it) feels so unrealistic. In the real world, constantly interrupting an adult to adjust their phrasing when you already understood what they meant isn't sweet or helpful, it’s just condescending. You are not my teacher. If you get the gist of what someone is saying, you move the conversation forward. If you genuinely don't understand, you ask for clarification and give them a second to explain. That’s how basic communication works.
Ilya Rozanov has far too much natural confidence to care if a native speaker thinks his verb tenses are flawless. If a teammate or a partner tried to pedantically correct his grammar mid sentence, he wouldn't look embarrassed or insecure, he’d be annoyed, tell them to get to the point, and keep moving. Multilingual characters aren't perpetually waiting for native speakers to grade their English. Language is for communicating, not performing perfection for the people around you.
Two World Cup finalists from opposing teams in this fucking picture, this sport isn't real
Context for anyone who is wondering: Lamine Yamal's parents won an UNICEF raffle for a charity photoshoot in which Barça players posed with kids, and 5 month old Lamine happened to get 20yo Messi. Which is like. Literally insane

it's easy to get the feeling that LLM coding agents making software development "free" now because a skilled engineer can do what used to take them two weeks in one intense day and that is a 10x speed up which is amazing but it's not free and they're working even harder than they did before, with zero downtime, and will burn out that much faster.
I saw a psychologist talk about how automating the 'easy tasks' means everyone's jobs will just get harder. Because the human has to do the hard stuff all the time now.
Her example was in call centers, where an agent might take 1 difficult call in 10, which is stressful, but the person has the 9 easy calls to offset that stress and recalibrate their nervous system. But when 'AI agents' take those 9 easy calls, you, the human, are left with 100% difficult calls. What used to be a small, unpleasant portion of your day now becomes your entire day, all day, every day.
And to make things worse, your boss fired all the other humans, so rather than spreading out the bad amongst a team of people who could commiserate and provide support, it's just you, absorbing the stress, alone, forever.
And that's miserable.
yeah that's a weird inversion of what happens in some other fields, most famously when autopilots steadily took away more pilot work in the easy situations, only to dump human pilots into impossible situations when they cut out at the worst possible time.
“those poor tradwives are doing bdsm wrong!” they are making entire communities built on the idea that they have to “save” the human race* (*white people) by having as many white children as possible and convincing other white people to push back on reproductive rights and purposefully cause the deaths of brown babies because they think we r ruining the planet by being brown, i dont give a fuck if it was somehow about kink, these women and their families and friends are apart of our society and they r literally getting poc killed can we focus on that
To this Day Ilya can’t stand the smell of a gas cooker because of how many times Irina would stick her head in the oven to get rid of the ‘Demons’ while Grigori was out fucking their maid and Alexei was stoned in his bedroom trying to ignore it

the chasm between who Irina actually was and who Irina was to Ilya is massive and cavernous and such a fun place to play in if you're a sicko freak who likes to hurt your own feelings
