ONE POT HAMBURGER HELPER LASAGNA
Really nice recipes. Every hour.
Show me what you cooked!
It's really important when you're at work to go out there and really give it your 60%. Maybe 35%.
One time my boss told a whole story about how if a person who made parachutes didn't give their job 100%, people would die.
I made the point that
There's probably a whole quality and compliance process for parachute assembly and it's not just one bloke in a factory making and distributing them.
We get a 30 minute lunch break and no company benefits.
We don't make parachutes.
I had a disciplinary meeting and then went back to giving them as much as they gave me.
No one died.
There's something all us old heads tell to new hires: Hard work is rewarded with more work.
Don't kill yourself for a company that'll gladly replace you by week's end
Some of the wisdom shared over in the Ask A Manager comments is that when you start a new job you should give it about 60 %, not more.
You will have good results and get through the trial period, but you won't exhaust yourself and burn out, you won't set up your coworkers to look bad in comparison if they simply can't go as fast as you and, very crucially, when you hit a rough spot in your life you will have automatic leeway built in and not fall behind and have people jump down your throat when you feel like shit.
I wanna highlight these tags from @jeannetterankin because yes- this is exactly where I was going with this
Also, parachute companys absolutely do not expect parachutes to work 100% of the time.
Hence the existence of reserve chutes, a second parachute in the same pack, to use in case the first chute fails.
The fact that surgeons, possibly the profession that most needs to be able to give their 100% to their work when they're doing it, are routinely scheduled for insane work shifts like '12 hours straight' looks even more demented in the framework of this post.
my doc is on a 72 hour call shift. I am supporting her for 48 hours of that, doing all the work that isnβt surgery. But she has to be ready to do surgery for 72 hours straight.
this system is bonkers.

#the flip side of this#that is implied in op's post and that I don't see talked about enough#is that if you set up a system that relies on an individual person giving 100% effort#that's a terrible and broken fucking system!!!!#if parachute safety depended on Gary Parachute giving 100% then what happens when Gary gets the flu??#what happens if he quits or just has an off day?#no sane person would devise such a system#and in fact for most jobs that deal with critical safety issues there are MORE failsafes and distribution of responsibility#not less! Why would it be less!!!!#like yeah if I'm having surgery then I want my surgeon to be putting in maximal effort#but way more crucially I want it to be taking place in a hospital that has good systems and safety protocols and backups#and that TREATS ITS EMPLOYEES WELL AND PAYS THEM WE so they *can* do their jobs well#like c'mon what the fuck#talking#important

How To Make Gorditas de Nata
These homemade french fries are potatoes that are cut into sticks and deep fried until golden brown, then sprinkled with seasonings. Homemade fries are WAY better than anything youβd get at a restaurant, and are fun and easy to make.

Twenty-one tons of potatoes are up for grabs at Potato Palooza on Monday.
The nonprofitβs set to receive a donation of 21 tons of tubers this weekend from suppliers in the Midwest. Hoping to get the starchy vegetables to people in need, the nonprofit will host a βPotato Paloozaβ event on Monday in Park Hill. βAnyone is welcome to come. They can bring tote bags, wagons, you could back up your pickup truck if you wanted to,β Hissong said. The event is 9 a.m. to noon at the Park Hill Food Recovery Hub, 6090 East 39th Avenue, on July 27.

I saw an otter briefly hop on top of a babirusa at the zoo and when the stranger standing next to me heard my camera shutter click he turned to me with this look of immense relief, put his hand to his chest, and said in a dead serious tone βoh thank christ someone caught that on filmβ

OH MY GOD π
heh. didn't even stand a chance.
to everyone in the notes asking for a translation: panel 1: "weigh your heart" (the suffix pronoun for heart should be .k not .ti i think but i see what you are going for. also, my copy of faulkner doesn't have a copy of the word but it's pretty clear from context what it means) panel 4: "what"
anyway op good job this is really funny and better than 99.9% of hieroglyphs on the internet
@thatlittleegyptologist
xAa is 'to throw/dispatch/abandon' because fAj is the verb 'to weigh' (this can be checked on the Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae), .tj should be =k as already pointed out.
Thus with xAa as the imperative 'dispact/throw', the scales determinative doesn't belong to that word and is thus a word in and of itself the 3-consonant jws.w (the .w is just a plural, it's still 3-consonants), and then .tj which should be =k.
It's more: xAa jws.w ib=k 'chuck your heart on the scales' *ma'at gets obliterated* ptr 'what'.
As an aside; it's not good practice with Middle Egyptian to go 'we can infer this from context' when you can't find that word in one dictionary. You should be consulting at least three. Also, because my ass has been doing this for nearly 20 years, just so you're all aware xAa is in Faulkner:
This is page 183 of my personal copy of Faulkner's Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian. xAa is right there! You'll see that the picture of the entry for the TLA also cites it as FCD 'Faulkner's Concise Dictionary' 183.
You know the art is good when the academics start getting spicy in the notes
