i didn’t mention it directly in the original post because it was a quickly written thought that i didn’t expect to get more than like 2 notes, but the fact that she’s the only girl in the series who’s specifically drawn with dark skin is a really important aspect of her othering by the rest of the characters. the show’s actual handling of that aspect is definitely lacking at times, but even in the first episode she is literally surrounded by white students who hit her and make excuses to each other about why they’re targeting her. one of the first things that’s established about her is that she’s uniquely targeted by the other students. i have mixed feelings about how it’s shown because i think that her constant harassment and physical abuse at the hands of the other students can feel gratuitously cruel towards the beginning specifically because she’s the only dark-skinned female character in the show, but as we learn more about her as the rose bride it becomes more clear that the excessive cruelty she experiences is a very intentionally thought out part of the story.
