In darkstalker legends, Albatross pushes and pushes that he is the one and only animus, and that no other dragon could be one. When he discovers that fathom is an animus, THAT is when he flips. After being bullied relentlessly for his whole life, Albatross has developed an internal core belief that reduces his own value to being ‘the animus dragon’, because he has no other positive identity. He isn’t seen as anything beyond his power. When another another dragon comes in (fathom) as another animus, that is a threat to him, his status, what he is, and everything he is in his world. He is no longer needed or wanted, he is replaceable, even said so by Lagoon herself. He is no longer meeting those extreme standards that he holds himself up to, and he is no longer good enough for anyone. Thats why we really see him start to act quite unusual after the animus test, and eventually, he flips, killing his whole family. It was there all along, the only reason he didn’t do it so soon was because he believed he was still at least something.
