Here's a sharable, printable "Ten Dollar Bill" pdf, perfect for placing into Salvation Army kettles. Text on the reverse reads:
"I cannot give my support to an organization that actively persecutes LGBTQ people around the world - including Jennifer Gale, a transgender woman who froze to death in Austin because the Salvation Army shelter would not house her with the other women."
You can find the PDF here.
Donate this lovely burn to keep those poor SA bell ringers warm this holiday season. :)
how about, hear me out,
we just don't give people fake money...? We just fucking ignore them?? Or just stand there and talk to them about the horrors that people have endured due to the SA and prevent others from donating by making things awkward and blocking the donation bucket?? IDK i know the SA is a horrible, horrible organization for many groups of people, but something feels wrong about printing and “donating” fake money to prove a point?
If you talk to the bell ringer, you’ve reached the bell ringer - and only the bell ringer.
If you put a note in the bucket, the person who sees that is going to be the person counting the money. And they’re going to know that their organization’s homophobic and hateful policies are the reason that’s a fake bill and not a real one. Your message has made it past the peons and up the organizational structure to someone who handles the money.
It’s also an out if you, like several of the people in the notes of this post, are being harassed and/or verbally abused to donate money by the bell ringer. Additionally it’s a great way to get your message across if you’re deaf/HoH, on the autism spectrum, have anxiety, or don’t for any other reason have the urge or the ability to get into a verbal fistfight with a bell ringer today.
If you want to debate the bell ringers, have at it. But here’s the thing - not everybody is you.
