Iām in the wedding planning subreddit and this seems like a bit of an overreaction
The boss has arrived ...
@staff
Some time ago (I think in 2021) I had to go see a neurologist over really scary symptoms that resembled seizures. I was a nervous wreck about what I was feeling and had barely slept all week, which seemed to be apparent to the docās assistant when I sat down in the exam room for questioning or whatever. Dude was pretty young and soft spoken, around my age. He was laser focused doing something on one of those tablet-laptop Surface things as I spoke, presumably writing down my symptoms.
Midway through talking about my symptoms my voice audibly started shaking as I was describing them, clearly upset.
In the middle of my monologue he turns the tablet to face me, closes whatever program he has open and the wallpaper is this fucking collage of pictures of lord farquaad from shrek, lovingly decorated. Dude just sat there placidly smiling at me until I noticed and stopped dead in the middle of a sentence. We sat there in silence like this for like a solid minute before I started wheezing laughing. Before I could even say anything else or process it he picked up the tablet and wordlessly left the room, and I just sat there dumbfounded until the doctor showed up. 10/10 doctor experience tbh
I didnāt own a cell phone at the time to get a photo so this rendition from memory is all I can provide you
ID: a digital drawing of a man in scrubs sitting on a wheeled stool, serenely smiling with his elbow on a rolling cart, where a tablet is flipped open to show an approximation of the Lord Farquaad screensaver. end ID
Reblogging this bc itās making rounds again

āCovid game me narcolepsyā no you fucking pervert it didnāt. Youāre just a weirdo with a gross fetish. Covid didnāt make you suddenly want to fuck dead people. Keep that shit to yourself you gods damned weirdo
I have type 2 Narcolepsy. Studies have shown that serious viral infections can cause people to develop Narcolepsy if they are already genetically susceptible to having it. This includes covid. That is what happened to me.
You on the other hand might want to google the difference between Narcolepsy and Necrophiliaā¦.
Yall, I canāt believe that I have to do this, but I am going to say this in as clearly as possible
The anon was very confused.
I have Narcolepsy, which is a sleep disorder. Narcolepsy has nothing to do with Necrophilia. I am not into necrophilia.
I didnāt realize that one said ānecropolises.ā Thatās actually so funny. I think that one must have been a joke
Thereās something truly exquisite about stories where the real tragedy is the price you paid to stand on top of the world
Hollow victories ⦠sacrificing your humanity on the altar of what you perceive to be the greater good ⦠the loneliness of godhood ⦠regret for the person you used to be ⦠the realisation that there is no way back ⦠*chefās kiss*
I miss when ads were a single click and then theyāre gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesnāt even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you canāt do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that thereās nothing I can do about it.
The time of his life.

One of the most common ways you preserve pork without refrigeration is keeping it in really salty water. This makes the pork borderline inedible because itās so salty. What you donāt see in medieval fantasy is people soaking their meat in water for a bit before they cook it.
Thatās also a reason to boil your meat though. Like yeah meat tastes better if you sear it first but sometimes youāve gotta get that salt out.
You can also smoke your meats and make them into jerky basically. Itās not as juicy as pickling them though.
Also medieval peasants had more meat than youād think because of these preservation methods. You can feed a pig scraps for the whole year and then butcher it at the start of winter and preserve the meat. Because of this they also often had access to lard.
Medieval peasants also didnāt eat chicken very often. Thatās a source of eggs. If youāre lucky enough to own a cow itās also unlikely youād eat it unless itās on its way out anyways. Thatās a good source of milk. Itās more advantageous to keep a cow or chicken alive than to eat them.
These days chicken is usually the cheapest form of meat available. If someone is eating a chicken in a medieval setting though itās either because they didnāt need that chicken anymore or because theyāre rich enough to have chickens for eating.
If weāre talking mutton, European sheep are more often kept for wool or milk while middle eastern or African sheep are more often kept for eating. Europeans would of course eat sheep sometimes but itās another one of those cases where it makes more sense to keep the animal alive rather than eating it.
Fat from a fat tailed sheep makes for good cooking fat if your setting is more middle eastern or North African inspired. European settings would prefer butter, lard, or olive oil depending on where exactly they are.
Goats werenāt super popular in Europe during medieval and ancient times. Very common in the Middle East and North Africa though both for milk and for meat.
A cow or ewe must have a calf or lamb every year to produce milk. Half of those offspring will be male, and thus will not produce milk. Ergo they were eaten, because you only need one bull or ram for a much larger number of breeding females.
The limiting factor for livestock keeping in the medieval period was winter fodder--there was enough summer grazing for the spring births in fallow fields that they fertilized with their manure , but not enough hay and grazing to get them through the winter. So the lambs--all the males and some of the females--would be butchered in the fall. A bull calf might be butchered as veal (or "baby beef", depending on timing) its first fall or might be over-wintered and butchered as beef the following fall. A few of the older ewes would be butchered as mutton, replaced with female lambs from the spring births. A female calf would be traded, sold, or kept as a replacement.
Similarly, half of the chicks born would be male, destined for spring/early summer butchering. (Or caponed, castrated, though that's much more difficult with a bird.) Chicken is a lean meat, though, and rather tough in a free-range bird, so it was usually stewed rather than roasted. Capon was a bit of a luxury food due to the difficulty of castrating them. Geese were much more popular due to the fattier meat.
Pork was plentiful due in part to the large size of a sow's litter. Over-winter one sow, and you get eight piglets or so, much more than a cow's single calf or a ewe's one to four lambs. Even if you didn't keep your own sow, buying piglets to raise and fatten was common. Most medieval pigs would forage rather than being fed scraps--hence the ubiquity of swineherd as a humble occupation.
I always thought Reddit was a place where people could share things they created.A few days ago I posted one of my original paintings. People loved it. We had wonderful conversations about art, emotions, and how everyone saw something different in the same sunset.
About two hours later I was permanently banned from r/MadeMeSmile for āself-promotion.ā
I accepted that different communities have different rules. But then something even stranger happened.Soon afterward, a moderator from r/pics started going through my account. Not just the new postāmany of my older painting posts disappeared as well. One after another. Then I was permanently banned there too.
Maybe it was the same moderator. Maybe it wasnāt. I honestly donāt know.
What surprised me wasnāt even the ban itself. It was realizing how much power individual moderators have over what millions of people are allowed to see. One decision can erase years of posts from a community and instantly cut off your ability to participate, even if those posts had been happily sitting there for months or years.Iām not saying moderators shouldnāt have rules. Communities need moderation. But it does make you wonder where the line is between protecting a community and allowing a single interpretation of the rules to completely reshape what people can share.
The funny part?
I wasnāt advertising anything in those posts. I wasnāt posting prices or asking anyone to buy anything. I was simply sharing my original paintings because I enjoy discussing art with strangers from around the world.
Anywayā¦
Hereās the painting that apparently caused all the trouble. šØ
I wish irl grinding was as fun as in videogames tbh. Like yeah i need to go to work a thousand times but after that i have enough materials to buy a house. But alas, houses arent real
you know how some parents do that toxic thing where they donāt notice or reward kids for improving their behavior, but every screw-up gets remarked upon and used to inflict shame? so youāre stuck in that awful cycle where there are no rewards, only the inevitability of eventual punishment?
and how that makes it extremely hard to judge your own actions or grow into a better person, because thereās no one to confirm that you actually are doing better, and are capable of improving, and are not doomed to forever be a terrible person incapable of growth?
ok so: I donāt know how to explain to you that weāve built a social media culture that treats people the same way. with the same abusive cycle.
That sounds like cancel culture
I donāt know what to call it anymore. people get heated about terms like āpurityā or ācancelā or ācall outā culture, or canāt seem to agree on a meaning. Iām not talking about like. no longer supporting rich and powerful celebrities when their abusive actions come to light. Iām not talking about holding people accountable, or warning people about active abusers. but I am seriously concerned about how we treat social media users once they get even a small amount of attention, even in small niche spaces.
I am concerned about this culture of combing through years of peopleās social media accounts, looking for āproblematicā shit theyāve done. I am concerned with the whole culture of using ācall outsā as a tool to harass and ostracize users large and small. I am concerned about the malice we spread behind peopleās backs, in screenshots and posts they arenāt able to see. I am concerned with this culture of demanding apologies for things said years ago, things already outgrown and regretted, and of ignoring those apologies even while pilling on more censure. Iām concerned about this whole culture of accusation and misinformation, where the most outrageous claims and holier-than-thou performances are rewarded with notes and views, even as facts are ignored and context removed. I am concerned about the lack of accountability, the way the accused is given no opportunity to defend themselves from the onslaught, the way their responses and explanations go ignored, the way any charge can be made at any time on any evidence, with no ability to appeal or exonerate. Iām concerned about the way this culture targets minority users and turns their own communities against them. Iām concerned about the actually harmful and predatory behavior that gets lost in the bog, and how we have lost the ability to distinguish between shades of gray with any level of sanity. And I am concerned by the sheer number of people who fail to realize they are perpetuating bullying and harassment.
I am enormously concerned with the way people who are ācalled outā are never forgiven, never allowed to make amends, never allowed to grow, how their efforts to learn and do better are ignored even while strangers callously repeat and reblog and retweet the same criticisms ad nauseam.
And I see this everywhere, happening to anyone. And yes, this applies to larger accounts and youtubers and āinfluencers,ā and a bunch of content creators who may or may not be making a decent living off of their work, but who are certainly not ārich and powerful celebrities.ā (Because apparently we spend so much time in online microcosms that yaāll canāt tell the difference???) Christ, my blog isnāt nearly as large as some people seem to think, itās obscure by most measures, and still Iāve been the target of mass harassment for years. Iāve seen bad and watched others go through worse, seen users with far larger and far smaller followings driven off of this and other platformsādriven off with a violence and bloodthirst that had nothing to do with making a community safer and everything to do with a toxic culture gone wrong. Fucking fix this already.
Abuse is still abuse when it happens online, when done by strangers, when done en masse, when sanctioned by a community, and when done with āgoodā intentions. Do BETTER.
oh, and to anyone who has reblogged this and similar posts Iāve written with the āHeartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Pointā meme? that is literally an example of the behavior this post is criticizing. you are literally just punishing good behavior instead of allowing people to grow and do better. Iāve been the subject of smear campaigns for years, and Iāve lost track of the number of times someone has added that meme to one of my most carefully worded, thought-out, sincere and earnest posts, posts on serious social and mental health issues. Itās exhausting, itās not helpful, and guess what? Itās just plain bullying. Do better, and allow others to do better too.Ā
receiving an uptick of kys comments in my notifs so time to reblog this again i guess
