When you hear people throwing around the talking point of “well there’s a high rate of sex offenders in the trans/queer community”, this has to do with why.

Being on the sex offender registry isn’t inherently equivalent to whatever horrific sex crime you’re meant to think of when it’s mentioned. It evokes imagery of pedophilia and rape, but there is a lot that can get you put on it and not a lot you can do to be taken off of it.

Public crossdressing used to be able to get you put on the sex offender registry (and by used to I mean as recently as 2011).

Public urination (you know, the literal only option for someone who’s homeless and doesn’t have access to public bathrooms, a venn diagram where trans people are more likely to rest in the meeting zone) can get you put on the sex offender registry.

Sex work is pretty much an automatic way to end up on the sex offender registry if you’re caught. (This is especially weaponized against black trans women who do sex work)

“Deviant Sexual Intercourse” (aka literally any sexual activity aside from penis-in-vagina penetration) could get you on the sex offender registry as recently as the early 2000s. That effectively impacts the entire queer community in one way or another.

The sex offender registry is, first and foremost, useless. It tells you nothing about what someone did. It’s mentioned to quickly associate a person or a group of people with the worst possible crimes imaginable.

They do a lot of harm. Yes, I would want to be able to look up a prospective partner’s records, especially if I had children. But I don’t want shit like public urination or 17-year-olds texting nudes to each other or someone doing gay shit to be something that follows them for years, or forever. I WANT to know if my date raped someone or molested his child.

And they are absolutely weaponized against queer people. Using the wrong toilet could get you on there, if your state outlaws trans people using the bathroom. Wearing the wrong clothes. Being near kids while crossdressing.

Some states are pushing for the death penalty for sex crimes against kids.

The Health Council of the Netherlands has reaffirmed the country’s gender-affirming healthcare for transgender adolescents, rejecting calls to dismantle or restrict it. This is a huge loss for local TERFs and other transphobes.

Following a two-year review commissioned by the Dutch health ministry, the independent advisory body concluded that puberty blockers and gender-affirming hormones achieve their intended physical effects and are associated with better mental health.

The council found no evidence requiring an overhaul of the current practice, which combines extensive assessment, psychological support, multidisciplinary oversight and informed decision-making with young people and their parents.

It stressed that withholding treatment is not a neutral choice: delays may worsen distress and allow unwanted, irreversible pubertal changes to develop.

The review was commissioned  after the publication of the British Cass Review. The Dutch health council found that report irrelevant.

Dutch studies reviewed by the council found that only 0 to 3.5 percent discontinued hormones begun during adolescence, with no recorded cases of regret, although researchers still need better long-term follow-up.

A Dutch cohort study found that 98 percent of those who began puberty suppression and later received gender-affirming hormones continued treatment into young adulthood.

okay so i think i found the article op's (and me in my tags) talking about. being exposed to over 40 celsius (120 farenheit or so) for the whole day means youre sweating a LOT (the article says rashid- the farmer at the centre of the text- drinks around 17 liters a Day. humans usually only need 3, so i presume the rest is mostly used for sweat). so much so that the organizm reroutes water from other parts of itself to not die of heatstroke - salivary glands included, which means that 1. they have very little saliva in comparison to a healthy human being 2. what little their bodies DO produce is incredibly acidic, falling to ~5.5 ph from the ideal of 7ph. Teeth dissolve. Quickly. There's a mention of someone losing 8 teeth in two years

im not reading the whole article now (headache -_-), but later on the author of the article says about 30 million people (employed in agriculture) are at risk for extreme dental health problems. 30 million people at risk of not being able to eat solid food. 30 million people at risk of not being able to find work. being able to marry. being able to be part of their community. being able to speak clearly
