I really enjoyed drawing these and Iāll draw more another day uwu. As always thank you for your ideas, you guys are the best! Hope you all like it ;)
Btw, if you want toĀ āadoptā one of them, just tell me and itās yours (give them a name and a story⦠all of that <3)
My favourite is the vulcan/klingon hybrid. I bet sheās super strong and disciplined (not all klingons are uncontrolled and violent for no reason) but very passionate and⦠kind of romantic.
I also have a problem with the cardassian/aenar one because aenars need cool weather, but cardassians need hot weather so ????
Star Trek and Mass Effect alien species
are basically the same thing: The Proof
Vulcans - Asari:Ā Better Than You, and theyāll make sure you know it. The main character of this species is known for their unusual heritage.
Romulans - Salarians: Tall and sleek.Ā Itās pretty much a given that theyāre always up to something.Ā
Cardassians - Turians:Ā Regimented and militaristic culture. Known for the conflicts theyāve been involved in. Compared to their government, however, the people are pretty chill. Oddly popular with the fandom.
Klingon - Krogan: A warlike culture. Honor is their watchword, although sadly lacking in reality. The main character of this species is a badass who seeks to hold their people to these ideals.
Ferengi - Volus: Smol and squat. Comical. Known for their financial finesse.
Bajoran - Quarian: Kinda got the short end of the stick, and the species is struggling because of this. Their government can be problematic, and this is explored in detail. The main character of this species is a badass warrior lady.
Borg - Collectors: Faceless drones want to assimilate you. Theyāre really scary.
Humans:Ā See themselves as pretty fucking awesome. Other peoples either embrace that or find them to be really pushy. Alien productions of Shakespeare come standard.
Couldnāt agree more. A cross-over fic is in the making :3.
āThinking fastā makes understanding each other more difficult.
As someone used to the tame, sluggish feel of German politics Iāve been following the US presidential election race with morbid fascination. It is amazing to me how emotional and worked up everyone gets. In order for a German to get passionate about a political issue, something truly horrendous has to be on the agenda - like introducing a āveggie dayā to state canteens or, maybe even worse, thinking aloud about setting a speed limit on the autobahn. Both topics - eating meat and risking everyoneās life by speeding until your tunnel vision shrinks to the size of a pinhead - are basic human rights to ze Dschƶrmens and not to be discounted light-mindedly /*sarcasmoff*.
But in all seriousness, the emotionally charged, heated atmosphere in debates about certain topics in the US is indeed rather unusual to me, which is why I would like to ask you to bear in mind this⦠cultural difference?⦠when reading further.
What bothers me about emotionally charged discourses is that many people seem to āthink fastā in the sense of Daniel Kahneman, i.e., they use so-called heuristics to judge a piece of information or claim and form an opinion on it. Iād like to discuss one particular heuristic, because I think it makes debating any topic, complex and personal topics in particular, next to impossible: āemotional reasoningā. Emotional reasoning or thinking means that you use whatever emotion youāre experiencing to inform you about whatās true and false or right and wrong without taking into account the possibility that this emotion might be the result of a faulty / unreasonable cognitive assessment of the situation. You experience an emotion and make a āsnap judgementā that it adequatly informs you about whatās actually going on around you.
For instance:
I feel scared, therefore I am truly in danger.
I feel guilty, therefore I have actually done something wrong.
I feel angry, therefore someone else willfully did me harm or tried to.
I feel disgusted, therefore someone else did something morally wrong.
Well. Itās possible youāre wrong about all of that. But in order to determine that, youāll have to use "slow thinking" instead. And you feeling that way still has no bearing on whether whatever offended you is false. It also doesnāt automatically make your own standpoint correct. You being offended isnāt an argument for anything. Itās a feeling. Nothing more, nothing less.
Itās like Christopher Hitchens said: āIf someone tells me that Iāve hurt their feelings Iām still waiting to hear what your point is.ā
That is not to say that you shouldnāt care whether you hurt someoneās feelings. I think one should try to avoid that. But the thing is, sometimes, you just canāt. You hurt someoneās feelings without wanting to, because that someone interprets what youāre saying as intentionally hurtful. But youāre not responsible for what SHe understands. Only for what you say.
I encountered emotional reasoning often when people get worked up about gender or social justice issues. You feeling disgusted by two people of the same sex kissing each other doesnāt automatically give you any moral highground. You feeling offended by someone elseās opinion doesnāt automatically mean they had the intention to hurt you, were being willfully ignorant or that their argument has no merit.
Other people do not actively āmake youā feel X. Others donāt create your emotions. Others are not responsible for them. You are.
Itās not: trigger/activating event ā> emotional consequence. Ā (Aā>C)
Itās: trigger/activating event ā> subjective appraisal of trigger / belief ā> emotional consequence (Aā>Bā>C).
Slow thinking would be to stop for a moment and assess your belief. For instance, you could ask yourself:
What proof do I have that my belief is correct?
What arguments speak against my belief?
What other interpretations are possible besides my initial one?
Is my appraisal helpful to me?
Are the emotional consequences of my appraisal healthy?
An example by the often-cited Paul Watzlawik: A guy wants to put up a picture in his living room. He has the picture and the nail but lacks a hammer. Ā He remembers that his neighbour has one. So he decides to go over to him and ask for it. But before he even reaches his door, he remembers his last encounter with him: yesterday, when he was downstairs to check for mail, he saw the neighbour coming home, greeted him - but he didnāt greet back. āHow unfriendly to ignore me like that.ā, our man thinks. āI have always been nice to him. What does he have against me? Iām a nice person, canāt he see that? Pretty disrespectful now that I think about it. He probably thinks heās better than me, the arrogant idiot. And now he even thinks I am dependent of him just because he has a hammer and I donāt! This is outrageous!ā And so, brimming with righteous fury, our man walks up the the neighbours door, knocks, and before the other one can even get a word of greeting out, shouts him in the face:āKeep your fucking hammer, you prick!ā
Itās not the fact the neighbour didnāt greet that made the man so angry (Aā>C). Itās his assumption (Aā>Bā>C) that he willfully ignored and disrespected him - a belief he has no proof of. The neighbour could have been lost in thought, he might not have heard him. And even if the neighbor had acted willfully - the emotional response and subsequent behavioral reaction of our guy is not very helpful to his own goal. He wants a hammer but in the end doesn't get it. But our guy doesnāt think of that. Instead, he makes his own misery. Still no hammer. Frustrated the picture still doesnāt hang he blames the neighbour for his predicament.
Anger and emotional reasoning can make us impervious to other arguments and cloud our judgement. So in order to have a calm conversation about an emotional topic, I think it is important to check oneās own beliefs about and interpretations of what your counterpart is saying. The easiest way to make sure you understand each other correctly is paraphrasing what you understood and having your opponent confirm your perception or clarify what they meant. Until you both feel understood correctly thereās no need to advance the conversation because it will only lead to misunderstanding, chasing strawmen and maybe even altercation. In the end, we fail to understand each other - and isnāt that what all of us want? To feel understood. In understanding, there is human connection. And in human connection, thereās a chance for peaceful coexistence.

pls imagine a mass effect star trek au. shep is a starfleet commander.Ā
the krogan are obviously the klingons (warriors/value combat, poor relations with other species).Ā
the geth are pretty much the borg (the whole hive mind deal).Ā
the salarians would maybe be vulcan (salarians are quick witted, and vulcans are v scientific).Ā
turians are prob most similar to cardassians tbh (both have militaristic societies, live on a hot/humid planet, look like reptiles).Ā
the volus are very much the ferengi (the whole money thing, short in stature).Ā
I donāt have an equivalent for every species, but I like this.
Yes, yes indeed!
this is so funny & pure
Iām such a happy Chewbacca!!

Thereās just not enough theories about the implications of Sisko having Dukatās old office:
Sisko finding Dukatās hidden stash of bad love poetry.
Sisko accidentally tripping some security measure by leaning on the wall the wrong way. (Dukat is paranoid after all). The whole station has to be evacuated.
Dukat visiting and triggering one of those security measure so he and Sisko gets trapped together in his office for seven hours. So they canĀ ātalkā, since theyāreĀ ābest friendsā.
Sisko finding Dukatās hidden stash of illegally strong kanar. Quark somehow gets a hold of it and 5 people have to be hospitalized. Ā
Sisko having to remove the mirrors covering the ceiling before he moves in.
Sisko having to sign for a real size bronze statue of Dukat that due to being stuck in the Bolian customs arrives three weeks after Dukat left.
Sisko finding a tattered copy of self-help literature likeĀ āHow to give your inner child a homeā. With hand written annotations on important passages. And an inscription by Damar. With xoxoxo at the end.
Watch: Girl, same.
She has a chufa piercing. Itās scandalous.
This is awesome! Of course, in an authoritarian surveillance state like the Cardassian Union there are going to be subversive subcultures! Cardassian punk! Iām in love with that concept :3!
you will be assimewllated.
janeway: i have helped seven of nine discover her individuality
borg collective: you fucked up a perfectly good drone is what you did. look at it. it's got anxiety.
