The American century of humiliation is goin great 👍
I can't believe I'm still capable of being shocked
They keep referring to him as "man". In scare quotes.
you probably could domesticate a velociraptor tho, that thing could prolly protect the fuck out of grain
velociraptor livestock guardian for chickens eventually getting the thing sheep guardian dogs have where it gets bred to have chicken plumage to blend in with the other chickens
like this but it's a really angry looking hen
THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING!!!
Sure, a velociraptor is carnivorous. It’s also a pack animal, and a pretty small one, too. We domesticated dogs. We domesticated cats. Hell, we’ve even domesticated foxes. WE CAN DOMESTICATE VELOCIRAPTORS! Revive velociraptors and begin a domestication breeding program PRONTO!
YES!
I'm sure nothing could go wrong...
Y’know, everyone always brings up Jurassic Park, missing entirely that Jurassic Park is a piece of shit joint that was actively sabotaged by an insider trying to make a quick buck.
A serious scientific project to clone dinosaurs would not build Jurassic Park. They’d start out with one or two organisms that would be kept in controlled environments. Over time, as human knowledge of these animals expanded, they’d probably scale up the size of the environments and the number of the animals created/bred. Reaching a point where the dinosaurs could be kept in publicly accessible zoos or even bred as pets implies a vast wealth of knowledge has been accumulated to the point where zookeepers, animal behaviorists, etc. believe that they can safely be displayed and/or sold.
Of course, it is possible that greedy shitheads would try to monetize dinosaurs carelessly. Actually, that’s what the Jurassic Park book was about—a shitty ass money grab that cut corners to a disastrous extent. If a zoo is so badly run that the lions can easily break loose, then that is the zoo’s fault, not the lions. It is the zoo’s responsibility to keep the lions in a safe, healthy habitat, with lots of food and enrichment activities, where they can ignore the visitors if they please and only have to directly interact with specially trained humans. The same rules would apply if, say, a zoo housed a deinonychus. And, as with lions, maintenance of these animals would require safety procedures in the case of a breakout (or a human breaking in), up to and including killing the creature. Look at frigging Harambe, ffs.
There’s also the assumption that carnivorous dinosaurs, if let loose, would immediately go on a murderous rampage. Carnivora don’t kill for the love of killing. They primarily kill to eat. Other reasons include protecting their territory/young/self-defense or severe agitation. Yes, a loosed carnivorous dinosaur may kill a human out of fear or hunger. It might also wander around in curiosity, run away from perceived threats, do aggressive displays to scare people away, or eat a dog or a bird or some other animal. It’s an animal following its instincts, not a killing machine programmed to murder everything in sight.
And lastly…VELOCIRAPTORS ARE SMALL!!! They’re around the size of turkeys. My dog is bigger than that. I’d rather face a velociraptor than a moose any day.
Sorry for losing my temper, but Jurassic Park drives me up the wall! It’s a fun movie, but its depiction flagrantly violates any sensible and safe scientific approach to dinosaur cloning. Which is kinda the point!
The Jurassic Park movie velociraptors are actually based off of utahraptors which is why they are so much larger than they should be
Also, "insider trying to make a quick buck" really undersells what I believe is one of the movie's core messages.
John Hammond is one of those businessmen who is obsessed with presentation. He loves to say "we spared no expense" because he's thrown so much money at getting everything to look and feel just right for the experience he is envisioning. But that's not the truth. He spared one very important expense. Wages.
I ain't defending Nedry decision-making, but I've always interpreted it as the result of Hammond's financial priorities. Nedry wanted the cash for sure, but he also wanted to hurt Hammond because he felt neglected. Such a risky offer never would have been as tempting if Nedry was a happier employee.

So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
can ppl pls reblog this version
Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!

I never pass up an opportunity to share this essay.
I met a Californian conservative while living abroad who was exactly like this. He was incredibly anti-abortion because "that's what his team believes in," except in a few situations like the ones his sisters/cousins had been in
I can all but guarantee he didn't carve those exceptions out until he had to face them too
And they were roommates

March 30, 2026 - New Uber Eats delivery robots were sabotaged and vandalised in Sheffield, UK, with the vandals taking care to cover all of the many cameras on the robots with paint. [article]
New robotic food delivery equipment being used in a Sheffield suburb has been vandalised with spray paint. A vertical pole with an orange flag on one of the robots - designed to make it visible as it travels the streets of Meersbrook making deliveries for the food-ordering app Uber Eats - was bent to the ground. A charging station alongside a scout hut has also been defaced and traffic cones were placed behind the robots to prevent them from moving. Starship Technologies, which operates the equipment, said: "It's a shame to see a few people spoiling things for everyone else and damaging a new service for local people." Each of the bots is equipped with cameras and a suite of sensors. "The vehicles are fully autonomous" [AKA BEING OPERATED REMOTELY BY WORKERS IN LOW WAGE COUNTRIES] "and have been designed to navigate paths and busy roads safely, often using pedestrian crossings."
"It's a shame to see a few people spoiling things for everyone else and damaging a new service for local people"
Tell me about it. This is how everyone who isn't a tech CEO feels about your asinine and destructive decision-making
these are getting weird
I hate these
Dude has been a crazy piece of shit since well before they bought their Teslas. And, at the very least, people have been calling him out since he fucked with California's plans to build high-speed railways. Probably since way before that, but that's when I at least learned how much he sucks.
People just didn't want to listen until it became impossible to ignore. Now that they can't avoid being aware, they'd rather make excuses than go through the actual effort of ditching their Teslas. I ain't even saying it'd be easy or cheap to do so, but our constitution is worth more than their stupid fucking car.

The cop dismissed the case after she shared the bodycam footage
This is pretty hilarious (especially the hand to god part, shes funny) until think about how often he has done this to other people. Cops lie all the time, imagine all the times where its not so blatantly obvious hes lying. If she had her right hand, it would have been her word against his and judges always take cop testimony as true. ACAB always. Fuck 12.
