â32 Idol Satan-Chan, more commonly known as Satan-Chan, was the first known mascot personification of the Sega Saturn and was designed by manga artist Mine Yoshizaki. She is heavily inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog and also features a cat-like design. She is more specifically a personification of the Model 1 version of the Sega Saturn, while Satanna-Chan is based on the Model 2.
Satan-Chan first appeared in various gaming magazines in 1997 alongside Satanna-Chan under the company ASCII Corporation, which later helped Sega in the creation of the Sega Hard Girls project. Satan-Chanâs purpose was mainly to provide fun, lighthearted antics and adventures to help market the Sega Saturn, along with sharing miscellaneous trivia. Satan-Chan became popular enough to make physical cameos in Sega Saturn games outside the Tech Saturn series, such as Steep Slope Sliders, where she appears as a hidden unlockable character. The characters Satan-Chan and Satanna-Chan were seemingly retired from official use between late 1998 and mid-1999, as the Dreamcast began to rise in popularity.â source: https://sega.fandom.com/wiki/32_Idol_Satan-Chan
