My family's name got changed to sound more american when my great great grandpa immigrated here. It also has -man added to the end as a suffix but the name itself has no meaning. There's only about 100 of us with that name in the US for that reason. It's possible it was originally a german name with a job meaning but i cant really be sure without further research.
