An Introduction of Sorts
I’ve never been good at introductions so uhhhh
If you require me to pick a name for you to refer to me by, Jester will do. I am not particularly attached to any name though and you may refer to me by any name you so desire, so long as it is not meant to insult me.
I’ll accept any pronouns. My gender is a mystery to many, including myself.
Most of my posts are just on whatever nerdy interest I have at the moment. I tend to overthink and write too much, so forgive the lengthy word counts.
I’m currently an undergraduate double majoring in Computer Science and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. (I’ll call myself a Classics major though because that’s the more traditional term.) Please keep in mind that I’m no expert when I post on these things, just a student, and I have no doubt I will get some things wrong.
Learning ancient Greek is currently consuming my life with the amount of work required, so most of my posts will probably be about that, but my other interests include:
TTRPGs (Mostly Pathfinder. I’m both a player and I GM)
World building and developing lore
History, especially concerning ancient civilizations
Development of Religion and Mythology
Magic the Gathering
Hollow Knight/Silksong
The Locked Tomb
Haskell (My favorite programming language)
Art
In my Classics studies, my big interest is how myths impact culture and how culture changes how we interpret myths. Also really interested in how societal norms shift over time, and how often things people view as timeless morals and human nature are actually just results of their culture’s values and norms of the time. (Language plays a big part of this and that’s interesting as well!)
In computer science, I’m really interested in video game design and how video games are a very unique form of storytelling, and the variety of ways stories can be told with them. I also just enjoy the problem solving, logical aspect of computer science.
I do pull a lot of what I study into my world building and do a lot of research for my word building! I think using myths and history as a backbone to explore new concepts on is really interesting, and I like using references in names and designs as well.
