happy disability pride month to mean cripples, nasty addicts, people with down syndrome who arent nice and talk constant shit, wheelchair users that WILL run you over, autists that dont care and arent about to pretend to, people who lie to their psychiatrists, people that sit on the floor in public places with no benches, amputees that lie profusely about "what happened", ; to the "noncompliant", the "drug seeking", the "mean", the "difficult" and the "undeserving", and so on and so forth, i love us all and we deserve the world actually mwah mwah

to people that hide contraband in their assistive devices. to people that do party tricks they arent supposed to and people who will spit on you if you ask them to do party tricks. to people that weaponise the infantalisation of disabled people for their own purposes (theft et. al.). to the people who "misuse" their medication and people who dont take it at all. to my mother, who takes out her hearing aids when she doesnt want to hear shit anymore but will still pretend to be listening so you dont catch on. to people who sleep all the time and to people with "abnormal" circadian rhythms who are unwilling to alter their sleep/wake cycle to best appeal to societal (and moral) expectations. to people that complain loudly about inaccessibility and refuse to try and "make it work". to people that charge money for invasive questions and people that pretend not to understand the question at all.

are computers/phones/screens/etc. good for kids? I mean probably not. but you cannot cede an inch of ground on this because for children "online safety" all too often will translate to things like "you have no resources to learn about being gay or trans. you have no access to the history of oppressed groups. you have no way to learn about movements for equality like feminism, civil rights, gay rights, or trans rights. you have no outlet to talk to other children and have a social life that's not closely monitored by either your parents or the surveillance state. you have no freedom to explore the greatest bastion of knowledge and information that has ever been available in human history. you are property. start acting like it." I don't even feel any need to discuss how it has ripple effects on adults who lose access to these things as well because that's secondary. it will affect adults badly but we also need to talk about children because it's supposed to be "protecting" them. we're gonna treat children like glass sculptures with no interiority and then wonder why they act out, hide things from their folks, or anything along those lines. humanity really never does learn from its mistakes

if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks

yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support

it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
