What’s covered in this new flag is already covered in the original. More importantly, we don’t need to emphasize on love in order to affirm our experiences as true. That’s just my opinion as an alloace person. The yellow stripe is the only added meaning I can get behind since a lot of queer discussions— be them on Tumblr or on other social media platforms— are largely dominated by white americans. Some of whom could really stand to learn what intersectionality is.

At the same time, people are worrying too much about it “replacing” the current flag. Whether or not that’s the intention isn’t a concern to me because I don’t think it’s going to happen. I still see people using two aroace flags floating around, the original and the black-and-blue one. But usually, it’s the original. That sort of change isn’t happening overnight. These same worries happened when the Philadelphia Pride Flag was revealed, and evidently that did not happen. What did happen was racist backlash against a flag literally designed to confront racism within Philly’s queer spaces. People still rep the usual rainbow pride flag, Gilbert Baker’s pink-and-lavender pride flags, the Progress Pride flag, etc. People have options, the Philly Pride Flag being one of them. I digress.

Personally, I won’t be using it because I like the current asexual pride flag as is. The only addition to this proposed one I like is the emphasis on multiculturalism and intersectionality. Otherwise, there’s not much else I’d consider. No one’s obligated to use it either. I’m sure y’all know that, but I think folks are getting worked up over something that they ultimately won’t see outside of social media for a while. And if they do, they’re still going to see the current one in usage as well. Why? Because very self-contained online discourse over a single flag isn’t going to undo what people are already familiar with.

Introducing a survey on Species-Based Misgendering, hosted by Duranos of The River System.

     Species-Based Misgendering: the assumption of one's gender and/or pronouns based on the expectations of one's species, stemming from biases, when the expected gender does not match the individual's gender.       Gendered Expectation: the expectation set for a species' gender, whether this bias comes from a cultural or folkoric background, establishment in a media, a linguistic framework, etc.

The survey is open both to the identities underneath the alterhuman umbrella, as well as nonhuman/human+ folks within plural conglomerates. While this survey is primarily looking for responses from those who have been misgendered based on their species, those who have not experienced species-based misgendering are welcome to complete the survey as well. Interpretation of what counts as species-based misgendering is open to interpretation by each individual, and there are long-form fillable responses throughout the survey to accommodate this.

How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public.

Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.

In practice: the goal is to make it DIFFICULT to identify trans people to target with bathroom bans, and to create many FALSE POSITIVES for businesses.

Basically, you might get accused of being trans and kicked out, because of the badge. You say: I wear the badge because trans rights matter.

You follow up with a letter to the business saying you're fucking furious because some nosy dipshit just tried to play fucking genital police with you in the loos. You know lots of trans people (don't name any, if you do) and you wear the pin in support and you're disgusted at them for allowing this.

Blame the business for allowing the behaviour.

Businesses see that their cis customers are getting bothered over a badge and may clarify trans-inclusive policies, so they can kick out the bathroom botherers instead of nice cis allies.

You only need to buy and wear the badge, and you are protecting trans people. You can be genuinely heroic. Even one cis person doing this helps, and everyone you get to join in helps even more.
