it's cool how in the 6 years since this tweet was written it's become significantly less useful not because anything has gotten better but because the majority of products on Amazon are now from fly-by-night brands called "ZZPORK" and "GLUM4PANT"
wish we could talk about feminism or especially transfeminism without feeling crazy. because its not crazy. but whenever we talk about it we feel like we're putting on our tinfoil hats and ranting on the streets.
we can't even say "i hate men" without having to explain TO OTHER WOMEN that no, we don't hate every individual man on the planet, we hate the class man and the system men made for themselves that dominates the place we live in. in the same way that we have to tell other women that misandry is not a systemic force, and hating what men as a class of people and the patriarchy they made does not a misandrist make
and then WE feel bad because we made others uncomfortable by talking about injustice!
Its absolutely insane how much backsliding the public consciousness has intentionally done over the last couple years alone in regards to feminism. Like, all of these things were basic feminist concepts that most people anywhere left of center understood and accepted as late as 2024. Y'all remember the "would you rather encounter a strange man in the woods or a bear" question? That whole thing happened just two fucking years ago!

#Happy Labor Day to Shrek I guess
So, this scene is specifically a fuck off to famously anti-union Disney. But it goes beyond the dialogue. Look at Puss on Shrek's shoulders. Puss's movement is counter balancing Shrek's so that he stays up there. It's a lot of movement, a lot of animation, for a character who isn't talking. Every time they have to animate that feather in his hat, that's extra work, extra care, extra money, and that's just one element of the work, there. The animators could have chosen to put Puss on Donkey- look at Donkey's relatively small amount of movement compared to Shrek or Puss. But they didn't, they put him on Shrek's shoulders and they animated him. Why might they do this as a fuck-you to Disney? Well. Disney is not only anti-union, they are cheap as fuck. There's a lot of recycled rotoscoping in Disney movies in the 1970s because they were cheaping out on the process so they didn't have to pay rotoscopers. There are probably other examples, but, they recycle their own work a lot, and I assume most Tumblrinas have probably seen that video of the scenes from Robin Hood and Jungle Book and 101 Dalmations directly compared with scenes from Snow White and several animated cartoons that the rotoscoping was taken from. The reason that Don Bluth left Disney to start his own company (not Dreamworks, but, this is the example that I have) was because on The Rescuers, there were a lot of examples of the whites of eyes not being painted in- you can see it a LOT with Bernard, especially in action sequences. Don was told that the reason for this was that it was too expensive. He thought it looked like what it is, unprofessional and unfinished for a company that's allegedly got Disney money and Disney quality, so he went off and did the math and was like, "It doesn't cost shit." And Disney told him to shut up and stop colouring in the whites of the eyes. So he left. And you can see the kind of "needless" art he did in movies like The Land Before Time and The Secret of NIMH where there's a LOT of attention to detail in the art and in the animation.
We're seeing the same thing here with Shrek and Puss. While talking about union protections for union workers, in a nod intended to stick it to Disney, they are showing animators, "Look. We didn't need to animate this scene like this, you know this. But we did. We spent the money. We're pro union and we didn't cheap out."
Some great additions from the comments.

HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY METROID FUSION • Nov 17th 2002
They proposed using a Metroid cell to make an anti-X vaccine. It seems that the Federation had managed to preserve a cell culture from the last infant Metroid from SR388. The serum was prepared and injected without delay. The X parasites were immediately and completely destroyed.
IDK who needs to hear this but if there's something in your life that makes you feel better, but you never stick to it,
it's still actually perfectly fine to do it
and you shouldn't stop yourself from starting just because it won't be a permanent change.
Like if starting a new daily planner gives you an amazing afternoon of planning and four days where you feel in charge of your life,
why not do it?
It doesn't matter that it won't be a permanent change - 4 good days is still worth it.
If you ever catch yourself thinking, "I wish I could pray/stretch/prep/plan/do the thing, but I always get started on that and it never lasts more than a couple of days,"
what this really means is, "hey, I can feel better for a couple of days."
if this post is making you think of things in your own life that you wish you could stick to because of how good they make you feel,
just be aware:
you're not thinking of a list of ways you've failed to commit
you're thinking of a list of things that make you happy, and you should give yourself permission to start doing them as often as you want to
One of the administrators told me everyone from the latest expedition mysteriously showed at their homes and then died of cancer six months later so I asked how many expeditions there have been to Area X and he said every time something like this happens they just call for more volunteers for the next expedition so I said it just sounds like they're feeding expeditions to Area X and then one of the psychologists started crying
Orcas are known to be smart and ruthless hunters. They've been observed hunting a variety of prey, with some species, such as whales, larger
I'm Johnny Knoxville and this is Jackass
That's absolutely insane.
Nature red in tooth and claw ain't seen nothing yet
In case anyone was bothered by the idea of them torturing the fish, it was already dead.
When I say women should have higher standards for how they're treated, this is exactly what I mean. At the first insult? Kick. Him. To. The. Curb.

I'm dating myself but
Beautiful, no notes. (Found it on Facebook, tracked it back to Reddit)
i love this guy
when i was a kid i had moments of being so fucking diabolical because i realized at some point the best way to leverage power over my family was to do shit that would make everybody late
our house was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods so when i decided i didnt want to wear dresses anymore if we were going to some event & my parents insisted i had to wear a dress i would just go hide in the woods. was so committed i almost made us miss a flight once bc my mom packed a dress in my suitcase
i only promised to stop doing this if my parents got me formal boys clothes to wear which eventually they did. i don't feel bad about resorting to violence bc i asked politely and they said no. proud of 10 yr old me for evil annoying lesbian behavior
5th grade was the last time I wore a dress for school pictures. When my parents attempted to force the issue for 6th grade, I climbed onto our roof and pulled the ladder up after me. My dad borrowed the neighbors ladder. As soon as it touched the roof I pulled it up too. By the time I had 3 ladders they were willing to negotiate, and 2 hours late for work.

1. New treaty promises safer conditions for Indonesia’s fishing crews
“[… T]he convention seeks to establish minimum standards for occupational safety and health, fair wages, decent working conditions, social security, legal protection, and adequate rest for workers in the fishing industry. [… E]xperts say the ratification will also support marine conservation by reducing incentives for labor abuse and illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing [… and] help improve the traceability and credibility of Indonesian seafood exports[….]”
2. A new corridor reconnects one of Ecuador's richest rainforests
“Today, the Ecuadorian government […] announced the creation of the Yasuní-Limoncocha-Cuyabeno Corridor, a new conservation corridor more than 173,000 hectares (427,000 acres) of Amazon rainforest — an area larger than the city of London. […] Though protected areas typically limit human activity, connectivity corridors are different: They’re designed to support wildlife and people, allowing sustainable land use while giving animals room to roam.”
3. Donated solar system to aid Denver-based refugee support organization
“A refugee aid organization in Denver is celebrating the completion of a donated 60-kW solar system that is expected to save the organization over $350,000 over the next 20 years. […] The solar installation is expected to eliminate most of Project Worthmore’s electricity expenses. Those funds will instead support educational classes, community programs and shared spaces that serve families and local organizations across the Denver metro area.”
4. Rescued lynx from Ukraine settles into new habitat
“The Big Cat Sanctuary […] featured an emotional milestone as Ursa, a Eurasian lynx rescued from war-torn Ukraine, took her very first steps on grass. […] The groundbreaking facility is designed to mimic the cats' native environments across India, Sri Lanka and Nepal and features three five-metre (16.4ft) high outdoor enclosures linked by elevated walkways to encourage natural roaming, alongside a large immersive indoor house and private breeding spaces.”
5. Post–Hurricane Helene, this community is getting creative with solar
“[… A] trailer outfitted with 900 watts of solar panels and a smaller battery to help do the job […] is able to plug into the community center and function as a mini generator for crucial services, including the internet, refrigeration, and the pump for a drinking-water well the collective drilled on-site the winter after Helene destroyed an Asheville water main. […] Most of the time, it serves as a mobile outlet and tool-charging station for Poder’s home repair crew[….]”

It would kill half the 19-25 year olds online to realize "I can't help it I have trauma" is one of THE quintessential abuser excuses
Like there is a difference between "My trauma creates impulsive urges and has changed my instinctive reactions to be irrational, I need to relearn shit." vs "I'm traumatized so I Can't Help It and you're not allowed to expect better of me"
