It pisses me off soooooo much when I see the things people have to say about Wendy in The Shining. She is a victim of abuse. She has been gaslit by Jack into being an obsequious shell of a person, he has established that bond of fear long before they reached that hotel, she is financially dependent on a man who broke her child’s arm, she tolerates and minimizes his increasingly erratic behavior because she does not know what is normal anymore, she doesn’t want to hurt him because he is her husband and it is his role in their relationship for him to hurt her. She finally escapes. She gets her and her baby out in the end. I find her to be an extremely compelling character and easy to empathize with.
