This Fossil Friday, behold the Irish Elk (Megaloceros giganteus). It was originally discovered in bog deposits in Ireland. It was one of the largest known species of deer, weighing up to 1,500 lbs (680 kg). Its antlers, which could reach an incredible 13-ft- (4-m-) spread, were used in ritualized combat between males. Once ranging from western Europe to China, this animal died out some 10,000 years ago. However, at least one population, living in the Ural Mountains, managed to survive until about 7,770 years ago, long after the end of the Pleistocene. What's happening in Puerto Rico

Years of corporate extraction, privatization and tax predation, and U.S. colonial control have undermined Puerto Rico's most critical infrastructure: their water system.

More than 180,000 customers will be without water for 48 hours at a time starting Friday as part of an alternating schedule while Puerto Rico scrambles to find a solution to the deepening crisis as extreme heat warnings persist.

Donate to reputable charities helping people get the clean water they need as the government rations water during this historic drought.

Why I pulled the post naming Project PR Relief as a place to donate:

I'm reposting information because a trusted mootie had donated to Project PR Relief but they flagged the org late this afternoon (which I appreciate). Locals have also flagged Project PR Relief with serious concerns about legitimacy. I'm really sorry to have amplified them now and wanted to get to the bottom of it.

PPRR's EIN does not return a search result in the IRS nonprofit database. That alone is a legit red flag and reason for people to request a refund. I pulled my original post so people can find more established orgs with clear documentation of providing direct services to impacted communities in PR.
