Got asked about the valid issues the antiblack bigoted Greek mythology/Classics goofies have with the western gaze overtaking their stories, while still not agreeing with said bigotry. This is one reason I wanted us to read Mediocre; not only to get into the mindset of white American male supremacy, but of Whiteness as a whole.

Y'all got to understand that white supremacy is not sensible. It is self-consuming, deluded, cannibalistic, illogical. It's not real.

HOWEVER, anyone paying attention will tell you that it doesn't HAVE to make sense. All it needs to do is 1) convince its target demographics that it's real and 2) convince its target demographics to put in the necessary violence to MAKE it function. That's all!

It's not just white men who are feeling the ego burn of mediocrity. Whiteness as a whole cuts off its nose to spite its face. And yet, it's not willing to give up on itself, because to do would be admitting that there's nothing inherently superior, nothing more valuable, nothing that makes you more entitled. You don't live the life you do in a vacuum!

That's why you end up with white people who act against their own self interest in the long run while SWEARING that it's going to make things better. Not because it makes sense. But because to think otherwise would mean everything they've systemically bought into and become comfortable with... Is not reality.

To act in opposition would mean to expose oneself to the violence required to maintain the lie. You'd have to admit that you were an active part of the problem, part of the reason that you didn't have what you needed, all in exchange for proximity to power. And that's scary!

Don’t know what white or nonblack person of color needs to hear this but a Black woman speaking confidentially and assertively is not aggressive; it’s not bullying; and if you genuinely believe that every time a Black woman opens her mouth that she somehow wants to intimidate you with her existence that says more about your lack of a spine and weak sense of self than it does about me.

in elementary school we had. basically an immersive economics lesson that was "playing City," with different jobs and businesses; it was mostly semi-free time for socializing and selling/buying toys and snacks from each other. one of the lessons we were supposed to learn was the importance of paying a small amount of money into health and/or business insurance, because you had a chance of being hit with the Daily Disaster and a huge bill.

anyway, some kid who didn't buy insurance got hit with a "medical bill" early on, so he was supposed to be bankrupt and have to sit the rest of the game out. the 8 year olds were not having it and spontaneously invented crowdfunding so he could keep playing with everyone else.

Someone just recently tried this in the UK and apparently it was even worse. Like she got laughed at or told not to call anymore by some of the churches. And once again, the mosques offered to help.

I hope some folks in other Western countries, especially ones where we're seeing a rise of Christian nationalism and/or a rise of Islamophobia try this too. I'm very curious to see how that would pan out.
