Mostly Book Biz Rants?

I’m sorry for the parental heartbreak, but deeply grateful that it means more Neil Gaiman-narrated audiobooks. They’re soothing and comforting and give even An Old like me the feeling of being cared for. They’re a gift, really.

DRM ON FUCKING BOOKS???

The publishing industry 100% loves DRM on books. Like the publishers themselves will often insist upon it because they think it stops piracy.

FYI, the Kickstarter includes your choice of audiobook, ebook, and/or hardcover copy of the new book!

You can buy DRM-free ebooks from ebooks.com. I don’t know anything about their ethics or how big a cut they take (feel free to milkshake duck them for me), but I have bought books from them just to avoid supporting Amazon and ebook DRM.

And audiobooks purchased through Libro.fm are also DRM free and a portion of the sale supports indie bookstores.

This week has been a mess and I completely forgot what day of the week it was until this little lovely popped up on my dash.

I love so much that the (faux) fur was replaced with a tulle stole. I wish, though, that her stylist would give her the curly high pony for one of these. It’s such an iconic Barbie look and is both simple and elegant and it’s easily modernized.

What we need to do is convince all the disney adults in america that high speed rail would be a preferable way of getting to disneyworld compared to driving or flying. We could maybe harness their fondness for the monorail or something, but this is a group of people that has time, income, and passion that we could leverage. If we could direct 5% of the enthusiasm they have for limited edition popcorn buckets into calling their representatives and demanding high-speed interstate rail, we could get it by 2030

I’ve been told monorails/bullet trains are never gonna *ahem* fly in America because it would put pilots/the airlines out of business. And I’m just like “So fucking what? They had their time and fucked around and ought to find out.” But there’s just too much damn money keeping trains down in America. I tells ya, you wanna get change here in America, you gotta start eating people. Y’all eat one motherfucker, especially on live television, and I guarantee you the rest will get into line. But it’s gonna take something hellaciously drastic like that to effect any change here.
