i dislike the whole “horror is so back” narrative people are throwing around recently with obsession and backrooms. both are great movies, but horror was also so back with the long walk. and sinners. and the substance. and nosferatu. and literally anything directed by jordan peele. horror as a genre will always have its flops. but there will always be those few that revive the hype.

I’m not saying that disliking Supergirl (2026) means being misogynistic. I’m just saying that of fucking course the film about a woman who loses her shit, becomes a hero because her dog is dying, and ends up saving dozens of women and girls who were bought to be (child) brides is heavily criticized.

“The villain is boring and underwhelming” I’m sorry if a sex trafficker, pedophile rapist is not scary to you. Must be nice being a man.

Of course they don’t like Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. She’s a grown ass woman with zero love interests who spends the movie saving her dog, casually dismantling a sex trafficking ring while she’s at it, and preaching the importance of being good, not nice or smiley or cheerful but good. I for one adored the movie and I really hope I’ll get to see more of Alcock’s Supergirl she’s now my favorite iteration of her and I love her so dearly.

Seriously, after I came out of the cinema I couldn't understand why there was so much hatred to it! Supergirl was wonderful and full of action that keeps you hooked to the seat. I Loved watching a messy chaotic flawed woman superhero! It was so liberating!!!!! Milly Alcock effortlessly carried the movie on her shoulders! Brilliant performance! !!!

there’s something so gutwrenching about the fact that the female characters in obsession have real dreams and wishes but never get the chance to see them realized, while both male characters waste their wishes on short-term selfish satisfaction. they were complex, free-spirited young women who just wanted to create art, and they were destroyed by a man determined to confine them to his superficial perception of them. nikki wanted to be a writer, sarah wanted to be a tattoo artist and now neither of them will get to be anything at all
