The other day I was watching er with my mum and it was the episode where a dude with a knife in his forehead comes in. A knife deep into his forehead, in between his eyebrows. And I, chronic migraine haver, said to my mum “you know what? I think that would feel nice. For a little bit.”

14x12 "Hamelin" starts off creepy and weird and has you wonder if there's another Mr. Scratch. And then Spencer says azmer and everything goes downhill.

I feel like the biggest problem in later seasons of criminal minds is the fact that it stops feeling like a group of people discussing a case, with the occasional info dump to make sure the watcher is following, and it starts to feel like presenting a case or a psychological concept or anything TO the watcher.

Spencer just said "burglary isn't a motive. At Emma's he ignored her cash and her box full of expensive jewelry" which really feels directed towards you who watch, not the others who already know because they're also reading the file. And I feel like in earlier seasons it would've been an interaction between them, "seems like it wasn't burglary" "yeah why would he leave this and this otherwise?"

And I clearly remember a scene about folie a deux that I haven't reach yet but it's burned in my mind. It was JJ and Tara talking and one of them suggested that it was folie a deux and the other basically monologued the definition of what it is. The only thing missing was her looking straight into the camera. In earlier season it would've been (and maybe it even was, I think they explained it a couple of times) someone bringing it up and someone else agreeing about how it fit WHILE also explaining in a natural way what it is. Or even earlier season 10 with JJ and Kate, one of the two asked to the loved one of the unsub "do you know what folie a deux is?" and the other explained it to her (and consequently to us watching). But it felt natural.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

You know what could’ve been cool? There are many episodes of cm where the unsub is one that was active twenty/ten/something years before the episode and that stopped for some reason and there’s always the cop that thinks he failed.

They should’ve done something like that but with them being the one that “failed”. Maybe an early season, and they’re investigating but the unsub just stops for some reason, one they always list in this kind of episodes. And then five, ten seasons later the unsub starts again. And we have delicious angst about them “failing” the first time and feeling guilty for the new crimes.

I think it could’ve been cool, seeing the team fail once.

I guess that 3x14 (I think? I don’t have the remote at hand) with Rossi finally closing the case of the three children could be adjacent to this, but I want more. I want to SEE them fail. On my screen. Not in a memory, not as a “twenty years ago I failed”. I want to see it NOW IN THE PRESENT.

They were soooo close to this!!!! 6x09. Into the woods. It's half of it. They failed, the unsub got away with it. And they're all like "now we know he exists, we're going to catch him" AND IS NEVER BROUGHT UP AGAIN!

It's even more upsetting when you remember that they did actually brought it up again. They had a case in the same area and one of them went "hey guys remember that other unsub that we had here and how we fucked up and lost him? haha" and dropped the subject.

The tall man case was soooo Spencer’s jam. I have watched many tv shows with varying levels of continuity errors. Events happening in different times from episode to episode, people meeting for the first time in three different occasions, characters’ quirks are forgotten to suit the plot.

But Doug having a son throughout season one, just for said son to disappear completely as if he never existed is absolutely crazy.
