it is so incredibly unfair that inpatient psychiatrists are given the legitimacy to make sweeping judgements about our madness, twisting and shaping and classifying it into the schema that reassures their worldview when they have only ever seen us in conditions of confinement. if i am locked up, put in restraints, drugged against my will, kept from seeing the outside world for sometimes weeks at a time—my madness will respond incredibly differently to the hostile conditions of a total institution. How in the world can psychiatrists extend their analysis to make judgements about my illness/wellness/way of being in the world/way of being in my head? they have only ever seen the way I am Mad when i am surviving confinement. they have no idea what I look like when i am free.
of course i will start pacing for hours when I am locked up with nowhere to go. of course i will start screaming, and tear apart my room, and hurt myself when i am given no other options for exercising autonomy. of course i will become paranoid and start hearing things when I am under 24/7 surveillance, 15 minute checks, and cameras in every room. but every action i take is then used as evidence to fit me into a system of symptoms and diagnosis that are further used to justify my continued incarceration—it becomes an inescapable labyrinth, it becomes an irremovable cycle. every attempt to argue against their flawed interpretations just ends up as another bullet point on my medical record: "Patient lacks insight."
psychiatrists treat themselves as inherently and perfectly neutral—seeing themself not as an actor who is actively engaging and contributing to our experiences but as a removable spectator who can somehow cordon themselves off from madness (lest they catch it from us—don't you know madness is contagious?) the first confinement of psychiatry is the kind of confinement the psychiatrist does to themself: locking their emotions/perceptions/opinions behind the guise of scientific, objective neutrality. there is no psychiatry without confinement: they are bedfellows who rely on each other from the very conception of the field.
i could make a satirical joke about diagnosing psychiatrists with "Thinks They Can Be Neutral While Ignoring Their Material Conditions" disorder, but i don't want to reify their system of classifications even a little bit. What I want is to destroy the entire fucking system. it drives me crazy to watch this dynamic play out again and again and again with no recognition that putting people in conditions of confinement drastically shapes the way that we can then exist in that space.
it makes me sick—it makes me MAD.

i hate it when people mistake "etymology" with "entomology." like, i know where they coming from but it still bugs me
we share 1 braincell
what i don’t get is how people can’t comprehend that npd is literally developed in response to trauma and that just because individuals with npd have the capacity to abuse others does not make them somehow uniquely evil in any way. everyone is capable of abuse. yes, unfortunately those with a history of trauma and mental illness are more likely to struggle with this. but that does not equal that everyone who experienced abuse and cane out the other side a certain way is automatically abusive in some special way. like you said. if you are abused by someone with autism, you don’t call it autism abuse. it’s just abuse. from a person who happens to be autistic. yes their disorder may have a hand in their behavior, but that doesn’t make it some special specific kind of abuse. it’s just abuse plain and simple. why anyone is so desperate for more than that is beyond me. if it were my choice i’d completely erase my trauma, but that’s just me i guess. i have such an automatic adverse reaction irl the second someone mentions narcissists cause i automatically assume they’re about to go on a rant about how all people with npd are inherently evil, but that is most likely just a me problem. im not even cluster b myself but i just feel the need to explain to people that npd is a symptom of abuse and most people who has it are NOT inherently evil and abusive just because they have npd (and assuming so is kinda really shitty).
it really just boils down to people wanting someone to scapegoat for their trauma and unfortunately mentally ill and disabled people have always been targets for this. some people around my age might remember that before all of this was being directed at narcissists it was being directed at people with bipolar. and it took years and years to destigmatize bipolar and get people to stop using it as shorthand for "abusive" the same way that people do with npd now. and it wasn't because the destigmatizing efforts were really all that effective it was just that pop psychology found a new and more lucrative Evil Person Disorder to demonize and that just happened to be npd. and I'm sure that pretty soon (I'd say about ten years if I'm following the timeline of when this all started. because unfortunately for me I have been unwillingly watching the "narcissistic abuse" movement from the very beginning by way of my mom picking it up literally the moment they coined it and started selling books about it) people will move on from npd and narcissists as the Evil Abuser Disorder and they'll target a new one. people just want something to blame so that they don't have to address the truths they're uncomfortable with and they will go to great lengths to achieve that. and unfortunately there are a lottttt of people who just genuinely don't care about the the well-being of mentally ill and disabled people :/
Today I found out an underfell au exists for deltarune 🤼

Every time I see bullshit about women never EVER being able to beat men in any sport, I think about how in martial arts classes I, a cis woman, 5' 8" and 145 pounds, regularly beat the tar out of 6' 2" 230 pound cis dude weightlifters. One guy ragequit class. He came in cocky as hell and talking the standard bs line about how a woman simply never could beat a man in a fight because they're physically weaker and our instructor was like. Okay. Put the pads on you're sparring her. Yes, her, the one 4" shorter and 100 pounds lighter than you.
It wasn't close I beat the pants off that man, and others like him. I did it more than once. Some guys got humble and stayed. One guy got angry and stormed out.
And I think about that every fuck damn time I hear that bullshit, which seems to be all the fuck over the place these days. Oh, women are just fragile little soft delicate flower creatures who can't do ANYTHING and could NEVER compete with big strong manly muscular strong MEN.
I think about driving that dude into the mats and seeing the brutal reality of this big dude's misogany meet the realization that a woman was beating his ass literally that second, that none of his strength could stop the fact that I'd just hip thrown him facefirst into the mats and that had I actually connected with the axe kick to his neck I would have crushed a bunch of important shit and he could not stop me, and his whole psyche collapsing like a dying star in that moment.
Anyway, don't ever fall for it, ladies, and there's absolutely no goddamn reason to get your knickers in a twist about trans people in sports.
I've seen stuff about the cool fox sweater Ryan Gosling wears in Project Hail Mary and how people like the design and think it's cool and there are all these places selling DIY kits for it and etsy listings to buy your own and I guess the original designer (Mary Maxim) is out of stock, but anyway there's clearly much hubbub around the sweater and people like it. But in all this, I've not seen anything about how it's a design based on the Cowichan sweaters. Most articles call it a "curling sweater" and that's not an inaccurate name, but that is just another name for Cowichan sweaters, or sweaters based on those designs.
Cowichan sweaters are a style of sweater made by the Coast Salish people of Canada, who are and were incredible knitters and spinners and once sheep came to Canada, did really well making these sweaters that they were able to produce super quickly and the sweaters themselves were super warm and the designs were fun and culturally significant and admired and so the sweaters were really popular and still are, to this day. Authenticity has long been an issue, as many people can knit something in this style but that doesn't mean it's made well or with good yarn or by a Salish person, giving the money and credit where it belongs for the designs.
The Mary Maxim company apparently based their design on one from a trade show in Edmonton (I don't know whether this would have been an authentic Cowichan sweater or a knock-off, since apparently by the 50s, the sweaters were frequently being recreated by non-Indigenous people). I can't really tell the background of the founders of the company but it doesn't seem like they're Indigenous, and the word "Cowichan" isn't mentioned a single time on their website, so no credit is being given for this sweater design that's making them loads of money and that has been their staple design (to the point that Wikipedia says the sweaters are also commonly referred to as "Mary Maxim sweaters") for probably around three-quarters of a century, at this point.
If you like this sweater, definitely try and buy or custom order one from a Salish knitter. This site has lots of really great information on the history and importance of properly crediting and purchasing authentic sweaters and they also sell them. There's a big market for Cowichan sweaters second-hand as well, though of course that can make authenticating them tricky.

I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.
Veganism is better for the environment, but claiming that it's a morally superior choice ignores cultural and economic factors that make people eat animal products.
It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
There's lots of problems with USA public education but also a lot of you were just drawing Naruto characters kissing while your history teacher tried to tell you about the Scramble for Africa
They should make an anime about major history events actually. That way people could still ship the characters and be forced into accidentally learning things
