You’re misinterpreting what people are saying, just like the guy tweeting is. The implication of “don’t discriminate, hire the best” is that their gender shouldn’t have played a factor at all.
If all these women were the best, that’s fine. But we already know they discriminated because he flat out admits they chose universities with stacked graduates in favor of women instead of taking applicants from everywhere.
What does that say about them? That they’re fair minded.
Because even if I worked my ass off and got a perfect grade, if I saw this from my employer, I’d be fucking insulted. Because it implies that I was given a leg up over other people because of something I couldn’t control, how I was born.
It’s condescending, patronizing bullshit. If any of these women were chosen over a male applicant to reach this vaunted 50% ratio, then not only is it treating these women as trophies to be shown off for company PR, but it’s also lowering their standards to let them in. Which is just another way of saying that they think that those women are inferior to men and need help getting there.
And by the by, it wasn’t just men who were complaining about this. Women in that twitter thread were (rightly) pointing out how condescending it is. But because that’s fucking inconvenient to the narrative, we just get swept under the rug and it’s only men complaining.
