When working with digital photos, graphic design, logos, and other digital images, the two most common file formats you'll come across are raster and vector.

Learn the differences between the two to decide when and where to use each.

Raster files are images built from pixels — tiny colour squares that, in great quantity, can form highly detailed images such as photographs.

Vector files use mathematical equations, lines and curves with fixed points on a grid to produce an image. There are no pixels in a vector file.

Photo Images are raster files, and you may use Photoshop or an image editing app like Procreate to edit them.

Graphic files like logos are usually vector files, and you may use Illustrator or alternatives like Affinity Designer to edit them.
