Fuck capitalism
My brain: Run!
Me, sitting at my desk making business cards: Why?
Brain: Danger!
Me: What danger?
Brain: !!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else feel relieved when you find out you're sick and not just being lazy or undisciplined?

And so now I wonder, will we see how Capitalism fails us during the pandemic? The stock market continues to fall. How badly will people be affected by it? Who won't receive help because there's not enough money? The necessary resources like food and shelter may still be abundant, but simply denied to those who can't afford it.
This is what I want to achieve, but it’s not my identity
Even before the fire drill that was that presentation, I had been evaluating how I prioritize my time. Spending so many hours at work wasn’t healthy. I desperately needed balance.
Tony and I spoke in the aftermath of that week. We both agreed we've invested too much for too little return. We're both committed to our work and to the team. We both want to see success for ourselves and each other. But we need to live our own lives.
Tony summed up the sentiment pretty well: "This is what I want to achieve but it's not my identity."
The Threat of Hope
We pitched to a major client. Getting that account would mean significant change in the office and we were all in. “Late nights” doesn’t cover the hours we spent working on this presentation.
Things had been so bad, the office culture so draining, that when this opportunity came along, we jumped at it with the enthusiasm of starved dogs chasing a prime rib. It gave us hope that things could be different. Remarkable how a little bit of hope can be so dangerous.
