Iโve rewatched the ad at least three times to try and figure out why some folks are angry with it and Iโm at a loss.ย All I see here is: Be a better human. Set a better example. Encouraging strength of character and integrity over typical โmachismoโ.
In what goddamn world does โdefending your rightsโ and โfeeling is badโ have ANY CORRELATION. Wtf. Why the fuck do they think they can stand behind something great they did for the country and disgrace it by saying theyโre okay with boys growing up to be douchbags, and sexists, and people who donโt value emotions THAT ALL HUMANS HAVE REGARDLESS OF CHROMOSOMS OR HORMONES! Testosterone doesnโt change that much about the base workings of your brain. You still feel. You still hurt. And if you think teaching guys how to properly fucking deal with their emotions and not shut it all inside until they punch through a wall or a fucking person, then you can sit the fuck down.
All you anti milkers are fools. Imagine a milkless world. No cakes nor pies. What are you putting in your coffee to cool it down? Water? Appley juice? I hate all of you.
Almond milk op, almond milk
I really wish people would actually LEARN about almond โmilkโ and why itโs fucking horrible for the environment, and women. First: itโs nut juice. not milk. and thatโs exactly what it tastes like: nut juice.
i hate vegans for this reason. you spout โi care about the earth and the animals and healthโ and blah blah blah yet insist on eating the worst possible shit for the planet. like fuck off with โcow farts are killing the ozone layerโ and start thinking about your own damn footprints. iโm not gonna quote 100 articles at anybody but itโs a well known thing to ecologists and environmental scientists. (iโll admit, no form of milk production is good for the environment but donโt pretend your nut juice is ethically and environmentally innocent.)
Almond milk: quite good for you โ very bad for the planet
Like quinoa, another staple of hip โhealthโ obsessives before it, production of almond milk also appears to have a hefty environmental impact. More than 80% of the worldโs almond crop is grown in California, which has been experiencing its worst drought on record. It takes 1.1 gallons (5 litres) of water to grow one almond, and thanks to the big profits they bring in, almond orchards continue to be planted (this isnโt to say cowโs milk, which takes about 100 litres of water to produce 100ml of milk, is more environmentally friendly โ more that its production is not concentrated in one area of the globe).
Last year, an apocalyptic piece for Mother Jones by Tom Philpott, who has long detailed the environmental ravages of this crop in California, summed up the problems: almond farmers drilling thousands of feet down into aquifiers to pump out water has resulted, in some areas, in subsidence of around 11 inches a year, which โthreatens vital infrastructure like bridges, roads, and irrigation canalsโ and could trigger earthquakes. Furthermore, insatiable demand for almonds is harming honeybees, already an embattled species. Almond trees need to be pollinated but bringing in 1.6m hives to California every year, โinto an area dripping with insecticides is a recipe for disasterโ writes Philpott (up to 25% of the hives were damaged in 2014), including whole colonies killed off; this spring they fared better after guidelines were issued about pesticide-use during the treesโ blooming season). Itโs enough โ or should be โ to make anyone spit out their almond milk latte in alarm.
and FINALLY
it tastes like shit in coffee ok. you make me a good tasting almond milk cortado or cappucino and iโll eat my words but so far nobody has. i even went to a super expensive non-dairy vegan cafe to give it a shot (thinking all the cheap cafes just didnโt know what they were doing) and it still tasted like weakass nut juice with hot bean water. not everybody wants black coffee ok.
throughout history it has been a manโs job to provi..
no, throughout history men have actively prevented the independence of women, they have actively prevented our mobility, rights to an education, and livable income. theyโve abused our reproductive capability and passed us around like properties, theyโve used religion to rationalize their hatred of us, and to put us in a place of subordination. so yโall can shut the fuck up about men being โprovidersโ like it was some benevolent gesture, in an attempt to rationalize sexism.
Men didnโt take care of us, they contained us. And they didnโt do it because we needed protection, they did it to rape and impregnate us. So frequently that it became a tradition.
โWhen I was young, women were raped on the campus of a great university and the authorities responded by telling all the women students not to go out alone after dark or not to be out at all. Get in the house. (For women, confinement is always waiting to envelope you.) Some pranksters put up a poster announcing another remedy, that all men be excluded from campus after dark. It was an equally logical solution, but men were shocked at being asked to disappear, to lose their freedom to move and participate, all because of the violence of one man.โ

Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say,ย โWell, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!โ And theyโll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like Iโm just now understanding it. Then I explain,ย โThere might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.โย
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. Thatโs why eight year olds can understand equity.ย
it always amazes me when a man says he doesnโt know how to iron, wash his clothes, or cook. Like, donโt you feel embarrassed saying thatโฆsmfh
All the people in the comments saying โthey were never taught howโ can somehow learn how to speak dorthraki and watch YouTube to learn how to make a furry suit but canโt use the internetโs infinite resources to learn to wash their underwear got me fucked up
Whyย โfemale-presenting nipplesโ matter
When I was 10, my mom made me wear a bra and it felt like a punishment for being different.
When I was 10, I took the bra off when changing for gymnastics and accidentally dropped it in the school hallway. A teacher picked it up and said, โOh, this must belong to youโ and handed it back to me in front of everyone. I quit gymnastics.
When I was 11, I thought maybe the boobs would be okay so long as they didnโt get any bigger than would fit in my hand, so I kept measuring it, but they did.
When I was 12, I started wearing two or three sports bras to smush them down, until one day a classmate said, โAre you wearing two bras?!โ while laughing.
When I was 13, a boy told me he wanted to squeeze my boobs โuntil they popped.โ
When I was 14, I got cast in a play as an older character and a classmate told me I got the role because I had boobs.
When I was 17, my mom told me to return a swimsuit because it would be too distracting for my boyfriendโs father.
When I was 21, I got properly fitted for a bra and everyone felt the need to tell me how much better my boobs looked.
When I was 26, I got pregnant and my immediate fear was that my boobs would get bigger.
When I was 28, I got shamed for trying to feed my screaming baby in public without a cover.
When I was 28, people asked me โwhy are you bothering to use a breastfeeding cover?โ
When I was 30, people gave me weird looks that I wasnโt yelling at my kid for putting their hand on my boob.
When I was 31, I avoided going to the beach or pool because I didnโt want to have to deal with boobs in a swimsuit.
When I was 32, I got asked, again, โwhy donโt you get a breast reduction?โ
When I was 33, I watched a 5yo girl get shamed for running around in sweltering heat without a shirt on and had to reprimand a bunch of tween boys who thought it was okay to shame her for doing something they do all the time.
When I was 34, my kid kept patting my breast and sayingย โMommyโs squishy breast!!โ They will never see me express any shame about tits, because I want them to have a different mindset than I had. Yes, boobs are nice! Theyโre squishy! Theyโre fun! Thatโs the end of that.
Iโm 35 and no longer give a fuck. I donโt care anymore. As a teenager my tits were covered in stretch marks. Theyโve been engorged with milk. My nipple changed shape with pregnancy. Give it another couple decades and my breasts will probably be all wrinkly. Itโs sexual when Iโm using it sexually. I donโt fucking care, and I wonโt be ashamed anymore.ย
Every time a policy or cultural hangup treats people with breasts differently, it fucks us over.ย
Tumblrโs new policy makes an active choice to participate in this culture of shame. By classifyingย โfemale-presenting nipplesโ as explicit material, Tumblr has taken a stance that any chest or breast that differs from a male default is worthy of shame and unavoidably sexual. The idea that breasts are shameful and unavoidably sexual is exactly what fucked me up for so much of my life.
Stop shaming people for having bodies.ย
Iโve been seething in rage thinking of this all day and @aibidil put into words what was reeling in my mind.
Our bodies are not porn.
Okay but heโs right and he should say it.
โSmartโ and โCloudโ also mean data gathering. I need to have a tangent, so pardon me while I run with thisโฆ
Hereโs the thing: Iโm a nerd. I want to be able to automate things in our home and to have usable data. So I want smart electrical plugs that allow me to have rules and show me whatโs hooving up a ton of energy. Thatโs useful to me, but thatโs not the bargain that tech companies are willing to strike with me, because they want to be able to gather data and sell it.
Whatโs annoying as hell is that every currently supported thing that does this wants to be a cloud-based application that requires me to install an app on my phone.
I. Do. Not. Want. This.ย
I want my plugs on a network so I can flip open a browser on my laptop or phone or tablet and access them that way. I do not want them on or touching the goddamned internet. I do not want an information-gathering-and-data-leaking-phone-app.
The one thing that Iโve found that semi-reliably does this is no longer supported by the manufacturer. Every other goddamned option requires me to have it be app-controlled and I canโt control the data gathering from the manufacturer.
In this case, I am DEFINITELY an old-coot yelling at THE cloud.
Honestly, same. This is one of the few things that Iโm glad to be too poor to afford the cool toys on.ย
Same here. I donโt want my household appliances connected to the cloud. I donโt need my thermostat, fridge, or TV connected to the internet. I absolutely do notย something like an Alexa.ย
โSmartโ and โCloudโ also mean data gathering.โ
I work(ed) in tech. I have a decent understanding of what sort of data can be harvested through those things. Iโm not ready to go off-grid and become a witch that lives in the woods, but there are days when itโs a tempting idea.
couple years back a major botnet was discovered operating on the Internet of Things, in large part because while scrambling to get their smart stuff on the market most manufacturers didnโt even consider security. thermostats didnโt need security until you connected them to the internet! now theyโre running DDOS attacks and Russian spambots!
thatย particularย one was disabled but there are and will be many more
Thereโs a news story I saw recently about a family who has been hacked by a stalker. Iโm good on never having anything tooย โsmartโ in my house.ย
i have so many Feelings about the wordย โbitchโ. i love when itโs used humorously (โiโm out here ruining my own life as always bitchโ), i love when itโs reclaimed (โiโm a boss-ass bitchโ), i love when my female friends call me jokingly (โlisten here bitchโ), but when a man says it? sirens, warning lights. when a man calls a woman it it comes with such hatred. itโs stabbing. itโs sharp and vile and it drips misogyny. itโs funny how the word can be fine 95% of the time and the other 5% of the time it genuinely fills me with fear

Me reading academic papers: incoherent nonsense. Bullshit. I could write better than this in my sleep
Me writing academic papers: this sentence is 206 words long and contains 19 commas & a semicolon, fuck you
You either die with a bachelors degree or you stay in college long enough to watch yourself become the villain.
fun fact: eagles swim because they catch fish too heavy for them to fly again! this is how many drown; it is very hard for them to unlock their talons and if they catch a fish in the middle of the bay, it can be a very, very long swim to shore.
A woman working at an OB/GYN office, who was a breast cancer survivor, askedย Dr. Barry W. King to look at a lesion on her vagina
The woman was concerned her cancer returned so she turned to King for help
King examined her, and afterwards told her to have her husband look at it laterย
Once home she used the bathroom and noticed the toilet paper was purple
She recognized the purple as gentian violet, which is a dye used to treat different medical conditions but thought it wasnโt used anymore
When she went back to work, King acted giddy and confessed he pranked herย
She realized King also told several other people she worked with about the โjokeโ
She said in court she believes he was hoping she had sex with her husband and that it would dye his penis purple as part of the prankย
King took a plea deal, pleading guilty to harassment and got to keep his licenseย ย
lowkey cis men should not be ob/gynโs. too many men are fucking trash like this dude.
Just another reason to never see a cis man for ob/gyn services
on the one hand there are many aspects of academia that should be criticized but on the other hand iโm concerned about the rise of anti-intellectualism as a tool of fascism
Hey yo what the fuck does this say in English? Because if you canโt explain in laymanโs terms youโre not doing a good job of getting your point across to everyone.
hey man i think you might just be dumb
substituting โfemmesโ for โwomenโ in the name of inclusivity only makes sense if you see non-feminine women as expendable

Iโm obsessed with these pictures of the Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders wearing their real world professional work attire as their cheer uniforms
โYes, people of both genders pop up at events to hold forth on irrelevant things and conspiracy theories, but the out-and-out confrontational confidence of the totally ignorant is, in my experience, gendered. Men explain things to me, and other women, whether or not they know what theyโre talking about. Every woman knows what Iโm talking about. Itโs the presumption that makes it hard, at times, for any woman in any field; that keeps women from speaking up and from being heard when they dare; that crushes young women into silence by indicating, the way harassment on the street does, that this is not their world. It trains us in self-doubt and self-limitation just as it exercises menโs unsupported overconfidence.โ
โ Rebecca Solnit, Men Explain Things to Me
