Whumper/Carewhumper who realized they pushed Whumpee too far. Maybe Whumpee has been stoic this entire time and now just won't stop sobbing. Maybe Whumpee was defiant and now is just... complacent. Maybe there was something Whumpee always cared about, a comfort object or person, and now when Whumper tries to tempt them with it Whumpee just shakes their head. Especially good with a Whumper or Carewhumper who thought that what they were doing was best for Whumpee, but now they very clearly pushed them too far.

Wild conspiracy theory: Throk has been working for the Grimborns this whole time.
I sat bolt upright a few nights ago and wrote this. Stay with me, because I think I’m onto something here!
Defenders of the Wing
The Grimborns are able to sneak onto the island and steal the Eruptodon with no one seeing them carrying a huge-ass dragon to their ship. There's no way that they did that without some kind of inside help. Throk is following Mala around, but he is captain of the guard (or at least second-in-command to Mala). He would have been capable of incapacitating the guards, or ensuring those loyal to him were 'on guard' at the right time. "There should be guards here," says Mala when they discover the Great Protector is missing – we never find out where they went. Likely they just abandoned their post or went with the Grimborns, on Throk's command.

Throk is easily able to reach Hiccup once he's been taken by bounty hunters. The way he approaches Hiccup, menacingly and brandishing a knife, are NOT the actions of an ally! If Throk is working for the Grimborns, he's there to bring Hiccup straight to Viggo himself (perhaps Viggo didn't trust that any two-bit bounty hunter would be able to complete the job). The only reason this was foiled was because Krogan wasn't aware of Throk's loyalties, and stole Hiccup for himself.

Shell Shocked
Throk was assigned to guard Viggo on Defenders of the Wing Island.
When Viggo was taken off by Throk, his hands were manacled. But by the time of Ryker's attack, his hands have been freed. Why would Throk have freed his hands unless he was helping him?
Throk is told to keep Viggo locked down while the riders battle Ryker. But by the time they get back, Throk admits that he has slipped away. The only two explanations are that Throk is completely incompetent… or he deliberately released Viggo.
Ruffnut
All of his interactions where he's 'falling in love' with Ruffnut come across as insincere. Assuming Throk is still working for Viggo post-volcano, perhaps he has been told to get close to one of the dragon riders, in an effort to a) get more information about them, and/or b) separate someone who can be used as a hostage.
A man who is trying a bit too hard
In conclusion
I've always found Throk to be a bit boring, but he immediately becomes much more interesting if he's been a double agent this whole time! Perhaps he's the Defenders of the Wing equivalent of Johann – playing a long game to ingratiate himself into a community, waiting for the perfect moment to betray them for his own gain.
This is just a silly little idea! I doubt the writers intended any of his actions this way. But it's fun to think about!

I love whump scenarios as much as the next freak, but there’s something even better about forced caretaking by the whumper. Whumpee unable to move away from whumper as they dress their wounds. Maybe too exhausted/in pain to even try to shove them away. Maybe whumper is more intimate than they need to be, their hands straying too far down, resting for more than they need to. And they are taking care of their whumpee, but only so that they can take more when they see fit.

i do love a gag thrown somewhat loosely around the neck. the threat of it. this will be used, but not yet. i'm not done talking with you yet. savoring whumpee's last words, openly saving the best part- whumpee's muffled protests, pained gasps- for last.
vigcup enemies pen-pall situation where viggo and hiccup regularly exchange letters, first mainly from viggo to hiccup to try to "negotiate" but it turns into them talking about all kinds of things, personal things.
but here's the thing; hiccup writes in a very poetic, prose-like way, maybe because of his upbringing, maybe because he wants to upstage viggo's pretentious writing, but the letters he sends viggo are very ambiguous about whether they're threatening him, or flirting with him.
hiccup: i still taste the bitter taste of you as i lay myself down to sleep, i have learned you the same way one learns the coastline by wrecking against it often enough, navigating the uncertainty of your waters and i have become sure of it, the way winter follows autumn, the way the sea answers the pull of the moon, that i cannot escape you no matter where i go. i have watched storms gather with less certainty, felt their approach with less clarity, than i have watched and felt you inside of me, heavy as thunder, beneath my ribs.
hiccup describing himself as the shepherd of his flock, the naive lamb that has grown teeth to protect them, and viggo is the wolf, the hungry beast that's clamped its fangs in the juncture of hiccup's neck and refuses to let go, pulling him to bits in his claws. blood pours, staining both their hands; it will not purify them. they are the wolf and the lamb. the hunter and the prey. the beginning and the end. inextricably connected.
viggo is certain a formal proposal will arrive in the mail soon, and has started planning their late-summer wedding<3
