Notes: There are probable influences from fandom and whatnot in this story. So, I had this theory while watching the movie the first time (last July) that Jinu was Rumi’s father, AND OBVIOUSLY, that's not where the movie went but I wanted to explore it! With obligatory Star Wars references. In terms of where this fic might take place within the movie, probably before the train fight sequence in the middle of the movie.

I haven’t given up on Art Fight just yet! I sat down and faced my fear of the blank page!
Details and flat coloring next. I have the urge to render it eventually because of how much I love it and the fun I was having with it! Would continue but I need food and I basically killed my iPad.
anyone else find it funny when you hear viggo described as emotionally unattached. I know he sounds like an apathetic British aristocrat but I assure you that’s intentional. Most of his early mistakes were entirely because the man is so bored and desperate for the game to continue he actively puts himself at risk.
He charged dagur with killing Heather despite clearly being onto his mixed feelings on the matter as a test which very likely lead to Dagur wanting to leave and no longer being his ally.
He didn’t kill hiccup when he was paralysed in front of him because he wanted the game to continue after he got the dragon eye back
And he didn’t even trade anything for astrid’s life when she got sick because he was just oh so confident Hiccup would be in a much worse position he didn’t even consider using the one he was already in against Hiccup.
Again and again Viggo being bored/ emotionally attached to his plans and the game kept him from actually scoring a complete win and lead him to make more brash decisions cause even though he wanted Hiccup to stay in the game. Viggo hates to lose.
I would still call Viggo cold and unattached, but in his feelings and care (serious lack thereof) for other people and living beings. He has emotional attachment to himself and his desires, and is willing to trample anyone and everyone to fulfill those desires. He’s not emotionally attached to people, and probably wasn’t until Hiccup came along. Viggo gave his genuine respect to Hiccup, but no one else. His emotional attachments are there, but very callous and self-centered.
I just wanted to make something warm and cute and uaaghhhhhhhh so here ya go!
I suprised myself by finishing this because I was getting close to dropping it like many of my other illustrations, but I pulled through! And now, now, now there is cutie dad-son thingy! HOPE YOU LIKE IT!

Someone pointed out httyd2 being really good at physical affection between characters and I wanted to gush over my favourite example! I just love the way his eyes go all soft and elated, the reassuring expression and leaning into her hand telling her it's alright to do it, the way Valka immediately starts tearing up when she realizes her touch isn't unwelcome, her look of awe and happiness as she brushes his cheek with her thumb for the first time in 20 years.... it's such a tender and sweet moment 🥺
