Sad update everyone, Tama recently passed awayā¦ An estimated 3,000 people, including railway officials, attended Tama the catās funeral on Sunday, days after she died of heart failure aged 16. [x]
For those who havenāt read articles about it, the local shrine elevated her to a god. Sheās now the Eternal Stationmaster and patron god of the station.

okay but actually what happened to santama (or sun-tama-tama, which is her name because itās a pun on santama) was that she was basically sent to train for the position in okayama and they liked her so much they refused to send her back
āSun-tama-tamaā (a pun off of āSantamaā, lit. āthird Tamaā) was a calico cat sent for training in Okayama. Sun-tama-tama was considered as a candidate for Tamaās successor, but the Okayama Public Relations representative who had been caring for Sun-tama-tama refused to give the cat up writing, āI will not let go of this child, she will stay in Okayama.ā [25]
As of September 2018, Sun-tama-tama is working as the stationmaster in Naka-ku, Okayama and appears occasionally on Tamaās Twitter account.

So, fun fact- the manga Noragami has an arc where the main character, Yato (a minor kami/God that is down on his luck but trying to make it big time) goes to a council/conference for all the Gods in Japan.

Just to updateā¦ yes, there is a Gotama (āFifth Tamaā) now, introduced in January of this year.
Wakayama Electric Railwayās tradition of feline stationmasters has a new face: Gotama, who joined the team as stationmaster in January 2025.
Nitama and Yontama are still alive and still working. Gotama is Nitamaās second assistant.

Sadly, Nitama died last December, so today Yontama stepped up as full stationmaster. Rokutama (āSixth Tamaā) was also introduced as a new trainee.

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.

Hey do you know what rumination is?
Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.
Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.
Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.
I'll say it again:
Rumination is a compulsion.
Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.
I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.
And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.
Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.
Like this was genuinely life changing for me.

So this morning I found out that the RPG Maker forums will be shutting down this year, and itās really just another depressing thing to see.
If you read the link the company does of course say theyāre replacing the existing forums with new ones, and Iām sure no one would say the old ones didnāt perhaps need a lil bit of a glow up, some tech debt fixingā¦ but thereās a few key notes in there:
They are NOT carrying over any history, data messages etc. from the old forums
They are NOT archiving, retaining or in any way saving the existing forums in any way
They have NOT provided any reasoning past āas part of continued efforts to support developersā
As an offhand, moderate read, this sounds to me like a desire for some change in the forums but deciding nuking everything is less expensive than rebuilding and carrying over info.
If Iām cynical, and likely realistic? Probably to increase sales of their latest GameMaker software by making it inherently more difficult for someone getting the older software for cheap pushing it to its limits. The amount of institutional knowledge on those forums is absurd.
And even if it is a benign reason, itās still terrible because what do you mean youāre doing this with no recourse or potential for change? You sell software that runs on community goodwill? In an era where people are pulling away to open source software?? Crazy.
There are yeeeaaars of answers, plugins, suggestion, community built up on those forums - Iāve used the em to learn and grow my own skillet!!! And soon it wonāt exist.
At the very least, they gave a āheads upā - the deletion occurs mid December, so archiving by the community is possible from now. Itās just absurd that it needs to happen in the first place.
Itās just reflective of how the industry is right now - and why itās so important for communities to grow and build up knowledge together, knowledge that is NOT reliant on a company that can pull the plug at any time in the very name of the very customers, users and supporters they are screwing over.
