Tried to tip a tumblr blog at 1am and it was such a suspicious transaction it immediately put a full fraud freeze on my account
Fortunately, banks no longer just ask 'did you make that transaction' they want to make sure you weren't scammed into making that transaction and 5mins after their call will give away all your money anyway.
This is an honest to goodness life saving movement and I cannot be happier banks are adopting it
Unfortunately, it meant I had to have the most embarrassing financial call of my life
-
Me: Ah yeah I was just trying to tip a tumblr blog
Cash: right and were you directed there by a Facebook link? An Instagram advert?
Me: no I was just on tumblr...on purpose
-
Caah: and this person asked you for money?
Me: oh no they just had a funny story, which happened to be about money and I thought, "wouldn't it be funny if I tipped them"
-
Me: * covering a reblog by reblog update on the adventures my mutual was having *
Cash: okay I don't think that can actually happen though..
Me: It might not have, but i was happy to tip them just because it was funny
-
Cash: and how well do you think you know this person?
Me: *considers explaining how much I know about a beloved mutual without ever knowing their name or face* ... I have no idea who this person is
I think in the end Cash decided there was no saving me from myself
Do you ever start bullshitting a paper, and then look over it halfway through and think, ââŚWait a minute, I could be onto something here.â
this is the definition of college.
Literally I was writing a paper on Asian salt water crocodiles, like a simple about them paper for a college class, and I started noticing some inconsistencies in the scientific papers I was sourcing and I accidentally discovered that the crocodile has been misdiagnosed as least concerned on the endangered species list when they should be classified as endangered and now my professor is having me write a formal report to the international Red List to have them reclassified and all I wanted to do was write this paper on an animal I thought was cool and now Iâm considered an expert on this speciesâŚ
this is how it works half of esteemed biologists trip and fall into their specialty while pursuing something else. one lecturer i just went to started as a biochemist researching antibiotics and discovered that crocodiles change colors based on environment and now he has 30+ crocs in his yard for research purposes and heâs just likeâŚÂ âwait⌠iâm a chemistâŚâ
How did so many people end up with crocodiles on accident?????
you just go into science and after a while, crocodileâŚ
my brain going 'ok since both ff7 and isat are very 'poor communication kills' what if mash 'em up"
but I am so certain cloud in a time loop has already been done. Like I know cloud & time travel has been done. And time loops have become such a popular trope there's pretty much no way the ff7 fandom hasn't done that.
So. ISAT and *stares at ff7's plot*
Cloud's amnesia and Siffrin's amnesia are. yeah they're already matched there. But what about the Jenova clone aspect?
.ISAT canon actually does have an instance of a person being controlled like a puppet. ty loop. So. Somehow Wishcraft is to blame. This could possibly even have been a very widespread Wish/Curse--something that eroded the free will of every person in the country north of Vaugarde. But perhaps it was most dangerous only with conscious knowledge of the Wish, so it prompted a second, too-hasty Wish, that resulted in the country being completely forgotten. Can't seize control of something you don't know exists!
So like. in present day. Siffrin is totally just wandering around with amnesia and a buried control switch in their mind to add to his horrors.
on everyone's SOUL she's the least benched character in the entire game âźď¸âźď¸

As someone who has been on the Internet longer than many of you have been alive, I cannot emphasise enough what a good idea it is to block fools, bores, and drama-starters ON SIGHT. That means, on the FIRST sight. See the take, do not wait.
You are not a court of law. You are not required to hear them out, argue, nor give them a second chance. Block them. Nothing bad will happen to them without you! It's fine! Goodbye forever! Prevention is better than cure.
My fellow aunties will be with me on this.
I already knew historical fiction isn't totally accurate--'fiction', after all--but MAN was it a little wild to be halfway through reading a book and start looking up reviews because I was curious about impressions on the overall writing quality (it's been interesting enough that I'm reading through it and want to finish so far, but it's also got a weak understanding of when to use commas and gets repetitive on certain topics, also mc is suffering doormat syndrome so far) and encountered an entire reddit thread of people being dissatisfied with the book not just because its take on the main figure conflicts with other books the same writer wrote about these events, but the writer doesn't even really acknowledge 'yeah my understanding of this historical person has shifted' or whatever; instead the author's note talks as if other people are the ones who've been vilifying her.
So it's like ok good never trust a historical fiction book for anything besides a hopefully interesting story, got it.
also the historical fiction in question is about the Tudors so there was this gem of a comment:

Reblogging this for the third time in celebration of African World Heritage Day â¨đđŞ

Sometimes you send something you found online to a friend because you want to brighten their day, and sometimes you send something you found online to a friend with the precise attitude and bearing of a cat very carefully lining up their paw with the back of another cat's head.

âI donât put politics in my storiesâ is the literary equivalent of a cishet guy going âI donât have pronounsâ
people have this tendency to believe that fandom discourse exists because people in fandoms are Stupid Nerdy Losers, but in fact fandom discourse exists because anytime you get a group of more than 100 people together, they will start creating interpersonal bullshit. fandom is not special in this regard
There is sports discourse. There is yarn discourse. There is food discourse. There is academic discourse (dear sweet god is there academic discourse). If there are people out there collecting brass buttons specifically from 1921, they are going to have discourse about which buttons are trash and whether Person A cheated person B. To be human is to engage in pointless wankery sometimes.

Trying to figure out if someone commenting on my secret AO3 fics that they want to make character art is a new kind of scam. đ¤
You may have figured it out by now, but if they're trying to get you to respond on a different platform, it's absolutely a scam, there's been a lot of spam comments going around like that. (I recently turned off guest comments on all my fic just because I had a string of days where every comment from ao3 was in fact "Liana (Guest)" telling me to talk to her on some other platform.)
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
As Theodore Sturgeon said, ask the next question.
