*walking into the club with my date* *turns to them before we enter* tw flashing lights, tw loud, tw alcohol reference. *we enter the building*
Yes?
The way OP abstracted it makes it sound weird, but this is the normal, expected behavior.
Think about it: if you have a friend with photosensitive epilepsy or migraines, you generally warn them about flashing lights. Same goes for your friend in recovery with alcohol. Same goes for your friend with sensory processing issues with loudness. (In some of these cases it would happen as part of the planning process, not when you're about to walk through the door.)
"Bunch of us are going to Sammy's this weekend, do you want to come? Just so you know, people will be drinking."
This is not weird.
"It's going to be loud in here, you might want to put in your ear plugs"
This is not weird.
Content warnings are an accessibility feature. That most people already do in many daily situations. ("Just so you know, your ex is going to be there", "Do you want to watch this movie with me, Just so you know it gets kinda heavy")
u can just rock back and forth if u want. its free
flapping your hands is also free!!! making popcat noises is free!!!!!!! bouncing up and down is free!!!!!! clapping is free!!!!!!!!! theyre so good and theyre just free! you can literally just rock back and forth and flap your hands and pop your mouth and its literally free
ya……… these two have gotten me through everything & continues to do so
is the world really such a terrible place? yesterday i asked if oat milk was extra and the barista said yes so i said ok just regular milk then and when she gave me my chai latte she whispered “i used oat milk ;)” doesnt that make u want to live another day?
here is my life philosophy: next week there might be someone ahead of you in line at the store who’s short a quarter and you have a quarter and you can give it to them. if you weren’t there, they’d have to put something back. the week after that you could be getting lunch and the waiter might ask if you want some pancakes someone else ordered and never picked up. you could find someone’s lost cat. you could watch someone’s bag while they go to the restroom. there are so many ways you are going to touch other people’s lives and they are going to touch yours and there’s no way to know when it’s going to happen. so you have to keep living!!! i wouldn’t want to die today knowing that tomorrow the barista will give me free oat milk just to be nice.

This still blows my mind
I will happily delete this if I’m derailing or taking away from the original message (initially I put this in the tags, but a friend asked me to reblog as text)
If you don't want to pursue an autism or adhd diagnosis and you have access to a doctor or therapist you can get them to write you a note attesting to a symptom of your neurodivergence (rather than naming the condition itself) and stating the need for accommodation.
It's something my therapist told me about when we were still working in offices. I have sensory processing issues and on multiple occasions the noise in my office was so bad I broke the skin on my hand clenching my fist.
This work-around of course won't fix structural ableism and relies on you having access to a doctor/therapist who actually gives a crap, so still might only help a couple of folks.
Thats a good add on
the reason i like staying up late so much is because between the hours of 1am-5am, the world is quiet and no one expects anything from me. i could stare at my wall for 4 hours and there would be no consequences. it’s so silent and calm. i love it
there is no medical component to a trans kid transitioning
if a little trans boy comes out to his parents & is like 4 all youd do for his transition is cut his hair, buy a new wardrobe, & switch pronouns & possibly change names
no one is gonna put a little 4 year old on testosterone OR puberty blockers until theyre actually about to start puberty & then they give them a few years to really decide if they want to start hormones
a trans kid existing isnt “child abuse.” child abuse is refusing to let your kid live their lives as they truly are & forcing them to present as a gender they arent
radfems who interact with this post will be blocked & your argument will not be read or even considered. i do not care about the opinion of a transphobe & my original post still stands.
a few years ago a kid in my preschool class transitioned socially and the only consequence was that as soon as her best friend discovered that changing your name is allowed she wanted to change hers to Detective

How to be a good friend to somebody on the spectrum
Disclaimer: This is just from my own experiences with being on the spectrum! Feel free to add on or negate! My closest friends… Ask before they touch me but aren’t afraid to ask Learn my stims! My friend does my happy dance with me Talk to me first Encourage me to talk to them with physical gestures Understand that I look at their nose instead of their eyes Ask me if I’m okay when I’m overwhelmed Take me to a safe place Advocate for me when I can’t Help me advocate for myself Engage in my special interest and specific hobbies Talk about their own hobbies and engage with me in different ways Teach me about their lives and interests Tell me when they’re upset right away! Know that I might not always react the way they expect Know that I might not respond right away Help me learn them while they also learn me Play! Play! Play! Tell me not to be ashamed of being childish Are a safe place Love me very very much and know I love them too

How many other ADHD/Autistic people hate driving? I cannot stand driving.
It takes too long.
There is too much going on.
Do I look like I can remember every single fucking law and sign???
WHERE IS THE FUCKING SPEED LIMIT???????????
I have shitty directional sense so I am bound to get lost.
I will piss off other drivers with my bullshit and someone may have violent road rage.
If I do the wrong thing I could get a ticket and have to pay that - or crash, and then have to pay to fix/replace my car, still pay a ticket. And oh yeah, I could hurt myself or someone else, which means the hospital, or even a fucking funeral!
And I have to do all this TWICE at a minimum.
I hate driving so much, I want a chauffeur.
