Liquid Aromantic

Please don't forget about loveless people this pride month. Love doesn't make us human. People don't need to love in "other" ways to be valid. Some people are aplatonic, some afamilial, some asensual, some are heartless. They still belong. Abolish conformity and the idea that someone needs to be something specific to belong at pride.

I appreciate that the latest For Alien Eyes Only episode didn't try to say anything about how romance is something all humans partake in or that it is necessary. It makes my aromantic heart happy.

I feel kinda bad for straight aro or ace people cuz I feel like aromantic and asexual are kind of niche labels. Or even the idea of split attraction in the first place. Most of them probably don’t even know about those terms at all. You only really know them if you’re in queer communities and even then a lot of queer ppl don’t rlly understand them. Thinking about the heteroromantic/heterosexual people who would benefit from these communities and feel left out for reasons they can’t describe. I’m lesbian and aro and I felt so left out among my gay friends when I was younger for sure 😓

While separating relationships into strictly sexual, platonic, or romantic or some combination of those is fine for understanding the aromantic and asexual spectrum at a basic level, we must eventually understand that some relationships will never fit into these categories and often queer relationships are more complex than that, and our definition of queer relationships must include abstract relationships. As a community based on gender anarchy, debasing gender roles, and freedom to love how we will, we have to move away from immediately defining relationships.
