do you ever look at how stubbornly loyal Fëanor’s sons were to him, and to each other ie this was a sibling relationship style he encouraged in his house, and think about how fiercely devoted his own siblings could’ve been to him if only he’d given them half a chance and an ounce of affection—and, given how feral some of them turned out to be, how he probably would’ve liked them just as much in turn. And how a united Five Man Band of the children of Finwë could’ve caused just SO much trouble.

Sometimes I think about Tolkien visiting Lewis on his deathbed (despite having grown apart somewhat in later years) and meeting Lewis's stepson Douglas (who had already lost his mother and his biological father by this point) and Tolkien telling Douglas that he was welcome to live with his family if he needed somewhere to go, and Douglas not remembering until later that Tolkien had been orphaned too. The sheer Elrond behavior.

Elend Venture finds out Valette is a Skaa thief but instead of freaking out he goes "Oh okay she was just trying to steal from me! Not spy on me. We can work with that!!!" Like how fucking down bad can you BE????

If I live to be a hundred and read The Hobbit every year, I'll still get emotional every time I get to Bilbo saying tea's at four but the dwarves are welcome any time. It's such a good summary of his character arc, that he will forever be the hobbit who wants to be home to have tea every day at four o'clock sharp, but now he's also okay with unexpected parties, with strange friends from strange lands, with going without cake because it's worth it sometimes (for more reasons than just politeness!), with occasionally doing without tea altogether to talk a walk to see the elves

It'd be very easy to write a story where either the Baggins or the Took win out and Bilbo's change is neat and obvious, but there's no victory as much as the healing of the sharp fracture that makes him feel so divided all the time when the story starts. It's the type of character development I wish we could see more often in stories tbh

HC that Maglor is the only brother Maedhros really has a true sibling dynamic with? The others are all so much younger, Mae is really patient and gentle with them all of the time - and he is also patient and gentle with Maglor most of the time, but Maglor is the only one who just Gets Under His Skin sometimes because Mae was still young enough to develop that sibling instinct when Maglor was born. Maglor is the Annoying Little Brother and Celegorm and younger are all Perfect Little Angels, Children Whom Maedhros Birthed Himself.

this has been said before and much more eloquently, but I’m just thinking about how every time Jaime or Brienne fight someone after Their Fight they compare their opponent to each other like “yeah no way this guy’s as good as Brienne” or like “Jaime could’ve fucking wasted this dude” like idk what love language that is but it’s wonderful

I was making myself sad thinking about how one day Wayne's "gifts" for Wax will stop appearing but then I thought. No. What if the list is ridiculously long (I mean I'm sure it is but what if it's reaaaaally ridiculously long) and in era 3 we meet Wax's grandkid or something and they find dead fish in their boots and just go "ugh the family curse. great uncle Wayne's curse"
