For context here is a picture

I lived in Alaska for two years and I will never get over the sheer overwhelming bigness of it. 

Nights where the sky is clear you can see clusters of stars or the Northern Lights dancing. When the lights are rippling especially strong and fast you can hear a static crackle in the air. When the moon is out after it’s snowed, you don’t need flashlights to see. Everything glows and glimmers like polished quartz.  

But when the sky is clouded over so you can’t see the stars, you can kind of almost sense the mountains towering over you and helping to block out the light, these giant monoliths acting like this void darker than your soul. I’ve never experience night like Alaska night. 

Everything is big, the mountains, the sky, the valleys.

My friends and I’ve been fooling around writing bredlik poems of Stormlight characters. The quality varies but here’s what we’ve come up with:

Kaladin

my name is Kal  and wen things go badde I hate myselff and have big sad I  love the spear and Syl my spren she bonded me as best fren

Shallan

my name is Shallan and wen it’s nite I take deep brefs and eat stormlite wen I’m not me folks ask me why I look at my spren and tell a lie

Pattern

my name is Pattern I swerl around bump into thynges lie on the ground wen I see folks comunicaeting I hum real loud NO MATING

Syl

my name is Syl and wen I see a cool looking bird ooh wow thats neat *leaves

Adolin

my name is Ado and I have great hair I am the Kholin Highprince heir I am no radiant So who am I I spot Sadeas I stab his eye

Wit

Wario and Waluigi

are fantastic puns in Japanese. and I think people should be aware.

From an English-speaking perspective, "Wario" is fine and all. You flip the "M" to a "W" (for wumbo) and you get a a fun evil inverted version of Mario, haha. Mario, Wario, that's passable! And Waluigi is...... um.... sounds like they didn't try very much they just suck the "Wa" sound in front of Luigi.

but in Japanese

you need to know two important details

The "R" and the "L" in Japanese are phonetically indistinguishable.

Warui means "bad" in Japanese

So Wario isn't just "Wario" - he's "Warui-o". Flip one sound and you've got an excellent pun that basically reads as "Bad Mario", which is clever and completely lost in English.

And Waluigi. Since "l" and "r" are interchangeable, Waluigi reads just as correctly as Waruigi. Which. If you notice. Is Warui-gi. Slap on one syllable at the start of Luigi's name and you've got the same excellent pun on "Bad Luigi".
